Season 2 of Netflix‘s Wednesday is coming soon, in two parts. Part 1 of the series led by Jenna Ortega will drop on August 6, with Part 2 to follow on September 3. A teaser trailer just dropped. Wednesday follows the titular Addams to Nevermore Academy, where she learns to master her emerging psychic abilities. In Season 1, she uncovers a killing spree that was connected to her parents, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán), who met at the school 15 years earlier. Season 2 will shine brighter on Wednesday, and Morticia’s mother-and-daughter relationship and new family members will be introduced.
Amazon MGM Studios just dropped the first trailer for Heads of State, an action comedy reuniting The Suicide Squad‘s John Cena and Idris Elba, which debuts on streaming on July 2. Heads of State is about two government leaders who must set aside their rivalry to thwart a global conspiracy and save the world — if they can work together. Elba plays UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke, with Cena as U.S. President. When the two become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary — who proves more than a match for the two leaders’ security forces — they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. Along their journey to save the free world, they find a key ally in Noel Bisset, a brilliant MI6 agent played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
Amazon MGM Studios is teasing the theater premiere of The Accountant 2 with one last trailer. In the clip released yesterday, we get glimpses of gunfire, fights and explosions. The film follows Christian Wolff, portrayed by Ben Affleck, an autistic forensic accountant who was hired by Cynthia Addai-Robbinson's character, Financial Crime Enforcement Network agent Maybeth Medina. Jon Bernthal portrays Wolff's brother Braxton, a hitman, and together they take on a case looking for an immigrant family that had gone missing. According to an official synopsis, "they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried." The first film arrived in 2016. The movie will be out Friday.
Pope Francis, the 266th Catholic Church leader who tried to position the church to be more inclusive, died on Easter Monday, Vatican officials confirmed. He was 88.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican camerlengo, announced the news in a statement: “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite, merciful love of God, One and Tribune.”
Francis, who had a portion of one lung removed as a young man, was hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Feb. 14 with bronchitis, which led to double pneumonia and several respiratory crises.
He spent 38 days there, the longest hospitalization of his 12-year papacy, but had been released from hospital on March 23. On Easter Sunday, Francis came out of convalescence to bless thousands of people on St. Peter’s Square.
Born Jorge Mario Bergolio in Argentina on Dec. 17, 1936, Francis initially trained to become a chemist. He was also known to love tango, which he danced in his youth, before becoming a priest.
After experiencing life-threatening pneumonia at 21, Bergoglio committed himself to religion, joining the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits, in 1958. After being ordained as a priest in 1969, he worked his way up to become the archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998 before being elected a cardinal in 2001.
Bergolio was appointed pope in 2013, following the resignation of his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI. As an Argentinian, Bergolio’s appointment set numerous precedents: he became the first pope to be born outside of Europe since the 8th-century Syrian pope Gregory III, the first pope to be born in the Southern Hemisphere, the first pope born in the Americas and the first Jesuit pope. Upon ordination, he chose Francis as his papal name, after Saint Francis of Assisi.
Shortly after becoming Pope, Francis joined Twitter (now X), attracting more than 25 million followers in three years. In 2016, he opened an Instagram account, which now has 9.8 million followers.
As pope, Francis gained a reputation for being relatively less formal and conservative by the standards of his position, which caused controversy among traditionalist members of the Church. He declined to stay in the traditional papal apartments in favor of living in the official Vatican guest house, openly criticized consumerism and unregulated capitalism while championing environmental causes and promoted inter-religious dialogue and partnerships. At the same time, though he made sympathetic statements on LGBTQ and women’s rights during his papacy, Francis ultimately maintained the broad traditional views of the Catholic Church regarding same-sex marriage, abortion and the ordination of women as priests.
Though he fully upheld the church’s position that marriage could exist only between a man and a woman, Francis said during a 2023 Synod of Bishops — which was open for the first time to women and laypeople — that priests should exercise “pastoral charity” when it came to requests for blessings of same-sex marriages, a position welcomed by gay Catholics as a big step forward.
During his leadership of the Catholic Church, Francis promoted a theology that emphasized God’s mercy and serving the poor and downtrodden. One of his first apostolic exhortations, Evangelii Gaudium, saw him denounce economic inequality, calling on the church to embrace its global diversity. His first encyclical, Laudato si’, proclaimed that climate change was a moral issue caused by unchecked capitalism and the exploitation of human beings and endorsed the rights of Indigenous people.
In 2018, Francis revised the catechism of the Church to fully reject the death penalty, calling it “inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person.”
Hailed by global liberals as the most progressive pope to date, Francis had plenty of fans in the entertainment world. The dozens of big names who attended various forms of papal audiences during his time as church leader include Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, Bono, Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, Antonio Banderas, Andrea Bocelli, Richard Gere and George and Amal Clooney, to name just a few.
In 2014, the pontiff personally invited Patti Smith to perform at the Vatican’s Christmas concert during which she sang “O Holy Night” backed by the Vatican orchestra. The pope’s invitation of the ‘Godmother of Punk‘ caused a stir among conservative Catholics.
During his first visit to the United States in 2015, Francis became the first pope to speak in front of the U.S. Congress and shared the stage in Philadelphia with Aretha Franklin during the Festival of Families, an event organized by the Vatican-sponsored World Meeting of Families.
In 2016, Martin Scorsese was given a private papal audience prior to a Vatican screening of “Silence,” the veteran U.S. director’s film about the persecution of Christians in 17th-century Japan, in a clear show of support for Scorsese’s passion project.
That year, German auteur Wim Wenders — maker of the spiritual drama “Wings of Desire” and documentaries such as “Buena Vista Social Club” and “Pina” — was given unprecedented access to Pope Francis over a two-year period to direct “A Man of His Word,” a documentary that launched from Cannes in 2018. The film revolves around a long dialogue with the pontiff, who answered questions about what he considered the chief global challenges facing the world including “social justice, immigration, ecology, inequality, materialism and the role of the family,” as the Vatican TV Center — which produced the doc — put it.
2019 saw Francis become the first ever pope to visit the Arabian Peninsula in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. There, Francis met with Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb, one of the highest figures in Sunni Islam.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Francis canceled his regular appearances at St. Peter’s Square and encouraged priests and Catholic Church officials to visit healthcare workers and the sick. The pandemic also prompted him to call for a universal basic wage to counteract the economic effects. He also issued strong statements against anti-vaccination misinformation, proclaiming that receiving the COVID-19 vaccine was a “moral obligation” to protect the health of the general public.
The leadership of Francis’ predecessor, Benedict XVI, had been greatly criticized for failing to take adequate action against sex abuse in the Catholic Church. Francis faced similar criticism over his tenure, with many calling him slow to react to abuse cases. In 2018, he apologized for the church’s slow response to the scandal and launched a Vatican investigation that led to the resignation of three Chilean bishops. Also in 2018, former cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s abuse of minors came to light, resulting in him being dismissed from the church in 2019. Francis was accused by archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò of knowing about the McCarrick’s actions and covering it up. Francis ordered the Vatican to carry out an investigation of the case, which largely absolves him and placed the blame on his immediate predecessors.
In January 2025, while his health was rapidly deteriorating, Francis gave a rare TV interview during which he slammed newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for the mass deportation of immigrants in the U.S. as a “disgrace.”
The 88-year-old pontiff was asked about the incoming Trump administration’s plans to deport undocumented immigrants during a conversation with Italian talk show host Fabio Fazio to promote his book “Hope,” which is the first memoir by a sitting pope and has been published in over 80 countries.
In early March, in a breathless pre-recorded audio message from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, Francis thanked the faithful for their prayers for his recovery. The 30-second message in his native Spanish marked the first time supporters heard the pontiff’s voice in three weeks. It was broadcast in St. Peter’s Square during the nightly recitation of the rosary prayer and aired around the world, proving that more than any pope before him, Francis understood the power of direct communication.
Francis is survived by his only living sibling, María Elena Bergoglio and his niece Cristina Bergoglio.
If it feels like Pedro Pascal is inescapable, that’s because he is. But we shouldn’t be surprised.
Since earning the title of the “internet’s daddy” in 2023, thanks to his portrayal of brooding father figure Joel on the first season of The Last of Us, the actor has continued to mesmerize Hollywood. Now a beloved and bonafide A-lister, Pascal is booked and busy — and his recent press appearances and upcoming theatrical releases are proof.
The latest development in Pascal’s ever-growing slate of upcoming projects was revealed on Friday at the Star Wars Celebration. Pascal, who starred on Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian from 2019 to 2023, attended the event held in Tokyo. In front of more than 100,000 members of the Star Wars fandom, Pascal discussed the upcoming Lucasfilm release, The Mandalorian & Grogu, in which he stars alongside Sigourney Weaver.
In addition to announcing the film’s theatrical release date of May 22, 2026, Pascal and his collaborators teased a first look at the project, which will mark the first Star Wars theatrical release in seven years. The actor, while talking to Extra TV on Friday, called the upcoming flick “one of the greatest adventure movies in the canon of all cinema.”
New details about The Mandalorian & Grogu emerged just four days after the Season 2 premiere of HBO’s hit drama The Last of Us, also starring Pascal, hit the streamer. The second season premiere drew 5.3 million viewers across platforms — a 13% increase from the series premiere in 2023.
Fans can expect to see even more of Pascal this summer. With three theatrical releases scheduled between the months of June and July — Materialists, Eddington and The Fantastic Four: First Steps — that’ll further demonstrate his range as an actor, Pascal won’t be shedding his internet's daddy status anytime soon.
In Materialists, the latest A24 film from writer-director Celine Song, Pascal portrays Henry Castillo, a wealthy businessman who takes an interest in Lucy (Dakota Johnson), a charming matchmaker who has a habit of putting her career ahead of her own personal life. Sparks fly between the two, but their burgeoning connection is soon made complicated after Lucy reconnects with her bartender ex-boyfriend John (Chris Evans). The result? A messy love triangle that could jeopardize her career.
The romance film hits theaters on June 13. Pascal’s performance as a successful, romantic businessman — as seen in the two-minute trailer released last month — has sent fans into a frenzy online.
On the other side of the spectrum is the Western black comedy Eddington. Written and directed by filmmaker Ari Aster, the A24 film, which hits theaters on July 18, explores the rising tensions in a small American town amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In the film, Pascal stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix as Ted Garcia, the town’s coronavirus-conscious mayor who’s running for reelection.
A small-town standoff ensues when the local sheriff, Joe Cross (Phoenix), decides to run for mayor after he refuses to wear a face mask at a local grocery store. Austin Butler and Emma Stone also star in the film.
Pascal will round out his summer of theatrical releases with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Coming to theaters on July 25, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature Pascal as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic. From director Matt Shakman, the film offers a fresh take on the legendary quartet as they defend Earth from the threats of Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm round out the team of superheroes.
If all that weren’t enough, the Game of Thrones alum starred in the viral AirPods 4 commercial directed by Spike Jonze, which debuted last month. Clocking in at five-and-a-half minutes, the short film titled Someday sees Pascal using Active Noise Cancellation on his AirPods 4 to cope with a recent breakup. Suddenly, his dreary reality is transformed into a colorful dreamscape as Pascal dances his way through the city.
With more than 40 million views on YouTube, the short film has even spawned a TikTok dance trend, as people have flocked to the app to recreate Pascal’s joyous dance number.
That Pascal is primed to have one of his best years yet should come as no surprise. Having put in the work for the last three decades, he’s due for a blockbuster summer.
Marvel Entertainment just released a new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, featuring Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer. The trailer sees Sue Storm, played by Vanessa Kirby, confirm to the rest of the team that she is pregnant with her first child. The good news is followed by the arrival of the Silver Surfer, who warns of earth's imminent destruction. Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), fears the attack on earth is his fault, as he sets out to save the world with Sue, Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). The trailer also features a peak at the massive boots of the villainous entity Galactus as he walks across New York City. The shadow of the gigantic antagonist was previously seen in in the teaser trailer, which released in February. The movie hits theaters July 25.
John Cena has spent more than two decades as one of WWE’s ultimate heroes after making his official debut in 2002. Now, as he prepares for his final WrestleMania in April, the man whose mantra is “Never give up” is reflecting on his career, his unexpected “heel turn” and what lies ahead.
The 47-year-old actor and WWE star made headlines in March when he aligned with his rival Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and attacked Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in the ring, marking his first heel turn — a moment when a fan-favorite “good guy” embraces the role of a villain — in over 20 years.
For some fans who grew up idolizing Cena, his turn to the dark side hit hard. But he won’t give much away if you ask him about it.
“My only reply to that is: I hope you enjoy watching the show that’s coming up,” Cena told Yahoo Entertainment, referring to WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, where he’s challenging Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. A victory would secure Cena’s record-breaking 17th world title, surpassing Ric Flair’s record of 16 championships, a milestone Cena currently shares.
For Cena, this WrestleMania carries deeper significance, as it’s the final act of a career that defined an entire era for WWE fans.
Cena first announced his plans to retire from wrestling in July 2024, delivering the news to fans at WWE’s Money in the Bank event in Canada: “Tonight, I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” he told the crowd.
Cena isn’t walking away entirely, though.
“The word ‘retirement,’ to me, simply means acknowledging and accepting that you’re closing a chapter and opening another one,” he explained, citing The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life by David Brooks as a book that helped reinforce his perspective on what comes next.
“This is a thing that a lot of folks go through, and it’s a normal progression in life,” he said. “It’s closing a chapter, continuing to be curious and finding that second mountain to climb.”
Looking back on his career, Cena has no regrets.
“Any creative venture has to involve courage because you’re essentially putting a piece of art out there and letting everyone have an opinion on it,” he said. “You have to have the courage to give your best and also the courage to understand that once it’s out in the universe, it is the subject of opinion.”
He added, “If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years it is you can’t please everyone.”
One way he’s staying connected with fans is through WWE’s SnackDown contest with Drumstick, which invites fans to showcase their best WWE-style “Snack Talk” for a chance to win a trip to WrestleMania 41.
“As a 13-year-old, I loved having a Drumstick at the end of my lunch,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing what our fans do with this. It gives fans of WWE a chance to be superstars by ‘talking snack,’ as Drumstick would say.”
For young fans hoping to follow in his footsteps, his advice is simple: “Be yourself.”
“There’s never been a better time to be around sports entertainment than right now,” he said. “The best version of yourself is good enough, and that will help you achieve whatever you want in life.”
With WrestleMania 41 approaching, Cena remains focused on the bigger picture. As for his legacy? That’s not something he spends much time thinking about.
“I don’t care much about that. I never have,” he said. “We are here for such a short time. I just think you should make the most out of the time you have.”
When it comes to how he’ll be remembered, Cena leaves that up to others.
“People’s perception of me, my values and how I live my life — that will be theirs to own,” he added. “As long as I look in the mirror and I’m fine with who I am, and think I did the best that I could, I just hope to use my time accordingly.”
Cena’s final act in WWE is shaping up to be one of his most unforgettable. And while his influence on wrestling — and the millions of fans who have followed his journey — will be felt for years to come, he sees this as just another chapter.
“We’re just getting warmed up,” he said.
Blink and you will have missed a star-studded first weekend of Coachella. The first weekend of the beloved music festival took place from April 10-13 and kicked off this year’s festival season with a bang, as just about every celebrity imaginable flocked to the desert to listen to their favorite artists.
From Lady Gaga’s return to the mainstage to Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s loved-up date night, here’s what you missed during the first weekend of this year’s Coachella.
After seven long years, Lady Gaga made her return on Friday to the Coachella main stage. She last performed at the music festival in 2017, when she replaced a then-pregnant Beyoncé as a headliner.
Dubbed “The Art of Personal Chaos” and divided into five acts, Gaga closed out night one of the festival with a nearly two-hour performance. Displaying her love for theatrics, the Grammy winner descended onto the stage in a Gothic, multistoried red gown, singing a stripped-down rendition of “Bloody Mary” before launching into her latest single, “Abracadabra” off her new album, Mayhem.
Featuring references to designer Alexander McQueen, Gaga’s performance was filled with high-fashion pieces — including a black leather jacket from Dolce & Gabbana’s spring 2005 collection and a custom white Dilara Findikoglu look. For her dramatic finale, the pop star closed out her Coachella 2025 set with “Bad Romance,” a Grammy winner in 2009.
Fellow Grammy winner Charli XCX is well-versed in throwing onstage ragers, and her Coachella set was no exception. She brought her “Sweat Tour” to the desert on April 12 and performed a slew of Brat-era hits, including “365,” “Von Dutch” and “Club Classics.”
The British singer didn’t throw the party all by herself. Early into her set, Troye Sivan joined her onstage to perform “Talk Talk.” Next to join was Lorde, who dueted with Charli on “Girl, So Confusing,” a moment that once again proved they’re no longer feuding. Last to join Charli on stage was Billie Eilish, who performed a remix of their Grammy-nominated track “Guess.”
Bernie Sanders surprised attendees when he introduced singer-songwriter Clairo ahead of her set on Saturday, during which he called for the younger generation to “help lead in the fight to combat climate change, protect women’s rights and build an economy that works for all.”
Additional surprise guests include Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day with the Go-Gos, Brian May of Queen with Benson Boone, Maren Morris with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Kali Uchis with Jennie and Queen Latifah with Megan Thee Stallion.
As far as celebrity sightings go, all eyes were on Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, who were spotted in the crowd during Charli XCX’s set on April 12. A fan-posted clip of the couple has since gone viral on TikTok, garnering more than 13.7 million views.
The White Lotus co-stars Patrick Schwarzenegger and Tayme Thapthimthong reunited that same night to watch Blackpink’s Lisa — who also appeared on Season 3 of the hit HBO series — perform at Coachella for the first time as a solo artist.
Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber, Tate McRae, the Kid Laroi, Paris Hilton, Julia Fox, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Emma Roberts and Bachelor Nation’s Rachael Kirkconnell were also in attendance during weekend one of the festival.
On TikTok, a woman named Ruth Viveros went viral after she revealed how much the food costs at Coachella. Viveros said that she paid $102 for two plates of tacos, two lemonades and a plate of nachos.
“They’re not good at all,” she said in the video. “The tortillas are like freezing cold.”
Other attendees have also posted about Coachella food prices. One woman said she spent $90 on four takeout boxes of food, while another said she spent $26 on a plate of chicken wings and fries.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took the witness stand on Monday amid a landmark antitrust trial against the company.
Various emails from Zuckerberg's past communication were introduced as evidence, including one from 2022, when the Meta boss proposed a “crazy” strategy to boost Facebook's waning cultural relevance: deleting all users' friend networks.
"Option 1. Double down on Friending," Zuckerberg wrote in a 2022 message to senior Meta executives. "One potentially crazy idea is to consider wiping everyone's graphs and having them start again."
The message, suggested in response to growing concerns about Facebook’s weakening relevance, suggested that the company could revitalize user engagement by eliminating existing friend connections and encouraging users to rebuild their networks from scratch.
The proposal was met with skepticism from some within the company. Tom Alison, the head of Facebook at the time, cautioned that such a move could undermine critical platform functionality, particularly on Instagram.
He responded to the Meta boss, writing, "I'm not sure Option #1 in your proposal (Double-down on Friending) would be viable given my understanding of how vital the friend use case is to IG."
Zuckerberg pressed the idea further, however, questioning whether a shift from a friend-based model to a follower-based model might be feasible.
Though the proposal was never actually implemented, as Zuckerberg noted in court on Monday, the email reveals how concerned Meta was with remaining competitive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Meta's antitrust trial
A separate internal email, written by the Meta CEO in 2008, is at the heart of the FTC’s ongoing antitrust case against the platform. In it, he wrote, “It is better to buy than compete.”
The trial, which began Monday, is the result of a years-in-the-making case over Meta's acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp. The FTC's case alleges the company bought the rival platforms to squash competition and establish an illegal monopoly in the social media market. If Meta loses the case it could be forced to break off Instagram and WhatsApp.
Meta insists that the competitive landscape has shifted dramatically and that it now contends with a host of formidable rivals including TikTok, YouTube, iMessage, and more.
“The evidence at trial will show what every 17-year-old in the world knows: Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp compete with Chinese-owned TikTok, YouTube, X, iMessage and many others. More than 10 years after the FTC reviewed and cleared our acquisitions, the Commission’s action in this case sends the message that no deal is ever truly final. Regulators should be supporting American innovation, rather than seeking to break up a great American company and further advantaging China on critical issues like AI,” the company said in a statement.
Experts say the FTC will face an uphill battle in proving its case, pointing to a recent court filing in which Meta emphasized that the FTC must demonstrate the company holds monopoly power in the current market—not based on conditions from years past. This requirement may be a hurdle for regulators, as the competitive landscape has evolved significantly since Meta acquired WhatsApp and Instagram with new powerful rivals like TikTok gaining ground.
The risks for Meta are still significant, as a forced divestiture of Instagram could slash its advertising revenues by as much as 50%.
Representatives for Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fortune, made outside normal working hours.

Paramount Pictures just dropped a trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The movie will hit theaters May 23. In the trailer, Ethan Hunt faces his most dangerous enemy yet in the form of an AI known as the Entity. The pic rounds out the plot set up in the previous film, with Hunt now in possession of the key necessary to defeat the Entity. Before he can do that, he must collect his team to find the sunken Russian submarine that houses the source code needed to destroy the technology. Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Rolf Saxon reprise their roles.
Disney released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming AI-themed, sci-fi epic, Tron: Ares, on Saturday. "The Teaser Trailer for Tron: Ares. This October, worlds will collide. Only in theaters 10.10.25," the film's star Jared Leto posted on social media Saturday. The 90-second preview -- featuring Leto as the embodiment of a computer program which escapes into the real world -- got more than 500,000 views in its first hour on YouTube.
