According to court records from the West Virginia Magistrate Court system, Retton, 57, was arrested on May 17 on one count of "driving under influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or drugs; penalties." The Olympian was issued a personal recognizance bond of $1,500, which she posted that same day. Retton is a retired gymnast. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, she won a gold medal in the individual all-around competition, as well as two silver medals and two bronze medals. Retton's performance made her one of the most popular athletes in the United States.

She thanked people who had prayed for Phil, who dealt with Alzheimer's disease in his final months. She recalled how he bravely told loved ones that he wasn’t afraid of death and considered it a comeback to the kingdom of God. Netflix has secured a straight-to-series order for a TV adaptation of The Secret of Secrets, the upcoming novel by Dan Brown, in one of the biggest book deals to date. The series will follow Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon as he races to rescue a missing scientist and her mind-altering manuscript. Set for release on September 9, the book is the sixth installment in Brown's popular Langdon series. Brown is teaming up with Lost and Jack Ryan showrunner Carlton Cuse to co-create, write, and executive produce the show, which promises a thrilling blend of futuristic science, ancient mysteries, and global suspense.

Discovery Channel announced this year's Shark Week, an annual programming event celebrating the ocean's apex predators, will kick off July 20. The cable network just released a promo clip revealing the 37th annual Shark Week will begin at 8 p.m. EDT on July 20, heralding a week of shark-centric programming. This year's Shark Week will include the new special Dancing with Sharks, which is hosted by Tom Bergeron and is described as "an unprecedented underwater dance competition between expert divers and their shark partners." The story centers on 16-year-old Haymitch, a clever and resourceful boy from District 12, who’s unexpectedly chosen for this edition of the games, which will feature a deadly twist: twice the number of tributes, with 48 children sent into the arena to battle for their lives. “The Hunger Games: Sunrise On the Reaping” will be out November 20, 2026.

George Wendt, best known for playing Norm Peterson on Cheers, has died at the age of 76. He died yesterday morning. In a statement, his publicist Melissa Nathan confirmed, “Beloved actor and comedian, George Wendt, best known for starring in the NBC hit comedy Cheers, has passed away.” “George’s family confirmed the news of his death early Tuesday morning, announcing he died peacefully in his sleep while at home,” the statement continued. “George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him. He will be missed forever.” “The family has requested privacy during this time.” Wendt’s earliest roles included small parts on series including Hart to Hart, Soap, Taxi and M*A*S*H. He also appeared in a handful of films, including My Bodyguard, Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again and Airplane II: The Sequel. In 1982, he was cast on the sitcom Making the Grade, which was canceled after six episodes. This allowed Wendt to join the cast of Cheers, which premiered the same year. Yesterday, Elon Musk hinted that he could be much less involved in politics by the time the next election cycle rolls around — at least financially. President Trump spent much of the first few months of his second term with Musk closely by his side. Musk reportedly donated more than $270 million to Trump’s campaign, and has spent millions more on a number of other elections across the country. Despite assurances to the contrary, Musk is also widely viewed as the face of Trump’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In recent weeks, however, Musk seemed to take a backseat within Trump’s cabinet. He has even expressed disagreements with the president on a number of key issues — including tariffs. During a conference in Qatar, Musk was asked if he intended to be a big spender on future campaigns. “I think, in terms of political spending,” Musk began, “I’m going to do a lot less in the future.” Asked how he came to that conclusion, Musk said, “I think I’ve done enough.”

Sesame Street is moving its library of episodes to Netflix. Season 56 will air simultaneously on the streamer and on PBS and PBS Kids. “This is Sean Combs,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Ann Johnson told a Manhattan jury yesterday in the courtroom on the opening day of Combs’ sex-trafficking trial. Cutting to the chase about the sordid allegations of rape, abuse and assault against the rapper, Johnson in the prosecution’s opening argument listed off “crime after crime” of “kidnapping, arson, drugs, sex crimes, bribery” and more that the feds claim Combs committed over the span of two decades. “He called himself the king, and he expected to be treated like one,” she said, referencing Combs’ alleged crimes like beating then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and “flinging her around like a rag doll.” Johnson said the actions were facilitated by his “inner circle and vast resources of his business empire.” In the prosecution’s opening remarks, Johnson returned again and again to Combs’ insistence on sex performances and orchestrated quote “freak-offs” with male prostitutes and women in his life, focusing on Combs’ decades-long relationship with Ventura. Ventura is set to testify in the coming days.

Prime Video is currently in production on a Legally Blonde prequel series, chronicling Elle Woods’ life in the years leading up to the events of the 2001 Reese Witherspoon film (and the 2003 sequel that we’ve all agreed never to discuss again), and now we’ve learned that it will premiere in Summer 2026. Witherspoon made the announcement herself on Instagram.

The 30 Rock reunion of former star Tracy Morgan, creator, star and co-showrunner Tina Fey, co-showrunner Robert Carlock and writer Sam Means has been extended. The network has picked up their comedy pilot, also starring Daniel Radcliffe, to series, which will be titled The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. Reports say the order is for 10 episodes. NBC didn’t reveal when the series will premiere. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is not on the fall 2025 schedule unveiled by NBC in conjunction with its upfront presentation, which only covers September and October. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins follows a disgraced former football player (Morgan) on a mission to rehabilitate his image. In addition to Morgan and Radcliffe, the main cast includes Erika Alexander, Bobby Moynihan, Precious Way and Jalyn Hall.

A U.S. remake of the beloved British medical series Doc Martin is in the works at FOX. Dead Poets Society, The Good Wife and Sports Night alum Josh Charles is set to play Dr. Martin Best in the one-hour comedy, Best Medicine, which will premiere in the 2025-26 TV season. "The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality, and humor, and with Best Medicine coming to FOX, that eccentricity gets a small-town America spin, complete with idyllic charm and absurdity," Michael Thorn, president of FOX Television Network, said in a press release. Doc Martin followed the surgeon, played by Martin Clunes, who relocates to rural Cornwall from London after he develops a phobia of blood. The show ran for 10 seasons from 2004 to 2022.

A young fast food worker was shocked when Brad Pitt up to her drive through window. The New Zealand girl was working her usual shift at McDonald's when the actor drove up to collect his meal. In video filmed on Easter Sunday and shared to social media, the girl begged the actor to say hello to her father on a video call. “Just say hello to my dad?” the girl pleaded - and Pitt said “No” at first before giving in to the request. “I'm sorry. Hi Dad,” Pitt said, giving the camera a wave before adding, “Alright, moving on. Happy Easter.” It wasn’t revealed what Brad ordered but the girl's mother shared the experience on social media last month. Taylor Sheridan and "Yellowstone" star Luke Grimes are coming to CBS with a new show, "Marshals." CBS Entertainment chief Amy Reisenbach announced the new show yesterday as CBS unveiled plans for the 2025-26 TV season. The new "Yellowstone" spinioff is planned for Sunday nights starting next spring. "Marshals," a tentative title, follows Grimes' character Kayce Dutton. The TV son of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) "puts the Yellowstone ranch behind him and joins up with the marshals using his Navy SEAL skills and cowboy skills to bring justice to the Montana range," Reisenbach said.

Apple TV+ has greenlighted The Wanted Man, an eight-episode thriller drama starring Hugh Laurie (House). Thandiwe Newton (Westworld) and Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) also star in the series. The Wanted Man is about the rise and fall of Felix Carmichael (Laurie), the elusive and powerful head of notorious British crime syndicate “The Capital.” Untouchable for twenty years, Carmichael is finally apprehended, but while he’s held in the infamous Staplehurst prison, it becomes clear that he’s been betrayed by one of his own. As the traitor moves to dismantle the empire he has built, Carmichael must risk everything in a daring escape. Willing to stop at nothing to take his revenge, if he succeeds, he’ll be a wanted man once more.

Joe Biden claimed it took him so long to drop out of the 2024 presidential race because he was being “successful” in office. The former president also said it there would have been no difference if he had withdrawn sooner, implying that Kamala Harris would have lost anyway. When asked why he did not end his 2024 campaign earlier, he told BBC Radio 4's Today program: “I don't think it would have mattered.” “It's a question lots of people ask you, Mr. President – did you leave it too late? Authorities in Brazil have charged a third person in connection with the alleged bombing plot at Lady Gaga’s concert in Rio De Janeiro over the weekend. The person, who is not named, was charged with terrorism offenses in connection with the alleged plan that aimed to target the LGBTQ+ community at the Saturday, May 3 concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian police said. Hours before the free concert, which drew the largest ever audience for a female artist, police arrested a man and a teenager in connection with the alleged bomb threat. The man was charged with illegal weapons possession and the teen is facing charges relating to child sex abuse material, police said at the time. The investigation revealed the third suspect allegedly had plans to sacrifice a child or a baby during the concert in a bid to complete a “satanist ritual," Brazilian police said. The man allegedly told police his plan was an attempt to “respond in the same way” to Lady Gaga, who he claimed is a satanist.

"Practical Magic 2" is happening. A follow-up to the 1998 classic "Practical Magic," the movie, which was originally announced in June, will premiere Sept. 18, 2026. "The spell is cast. The date is set. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return," Warner Bros. wrote in a post on X, revealing the movie's two leading ladies will reprise their roles. Stockard Channing, who also appeared in the original film, has not yet been confirmed as a cast member.

Disney just announced that Snow White, its live-action update of the animated classic that stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, will debut on digital platforms beginning May 13. It also said that 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD packages will hit beginning June 24. No date has been set for its landing on Disney+. On May 13, the pic will hit Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. A man was arrested after reportedly crashing through the gates of Jennifer Aniston’s Bel-Air estate while the actress was home. The individual, believed to be in his 70s, drove onto the property shortly after noon yesterday in Los Angeles. Aniston’s security team responded immediately, pulling the driver from the vehicle and detaining him at gunpoint until the LAPD arrived. Authorities have not yet confirmed what charges the man may face, and the LAPD noted the incident could have been accidental. Aniston was home at the time, but there were no reports of injuries. The driver reportedly complained of pain following the crash and was evaluated by paramedics at the scene. An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances and the man’s possible motives.

Lionsgate just announced the documentary Wick Is Pain. The making of the John Wick franchise will be available on video-on-demand retailers May 9. Star and executive producer Keanu Reeves, director of all four films Chad Stahelski, and producers Basil Iwanyk and Eric Lee will take viewers behind the scenes. The documentary will trace the franchise from the 2014 original's conception as an independent film.

Guy Ritchie will direct Road House 2, which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Jake Gyllenhaal on board to reprise his role as Dalton. Plot details for the sequel are under wraps.
