Larry David Remembers Richard Lewis

Richard Lewis and Larry David became linked in the public mind after Lewis was cast in David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2000. But their connection goes back much further. Yesterday, David paid tribute to Lewis. “Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me,” David wrote in a statement shared by HBO. “He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”

"Ray Donovan" Offshoot Series Set At Paramount+

The Donovans, a new series loosely based on Showtime’s drama Ray Donovan, is set at Paramount+, with Guy Ritchie attached to direct and executive produce. Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett will write all 10 episodes of the series, an extension of the Ray Donovan franchise. The Donovans will debut on Paramount+ for subscribers with the Paramount+plan with Showtime later this year. The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.

New Sci-Fi Movie Replaces The Shawshank Redemption As IMDB's Highest-Rated Film Of All Time

A new sci-fi movie has overtaken The Shawshank Redemption as the number one highest-rated film on IMDB - and the movie isn’t even out yet. The Shawshank Redemption has held the number one best film spot on IMDB since 2008 when it knocked The Godfather out of its long-standing ranking of nearly 20 years. The 1994 movie has lost its crown to “Dune: Part Two,” which has been called visually thrilling and narratively epic by critics days before its official release on March 1. The movie has a 9.4 rating on IMDB from viewers who went to an early screening of the Sci-Fi epic on Sunday, along with a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The majority of reviewers gave Dune: Part Two a 10-star rating with only five reviews ranking it below five stars, with many complimenting its blend of “visual splendor and narrative depth.” The film's IMDB rating has beaten out the top highest-grossing films of all time including Marvel's Avengers: End Game and James Cameron's Avatar and The Titanic which have all garnered roughly 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Rotten Tomatoes is considered to be a more accurate depiction of a film's success because it focuses on critics reviews. Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya star in “Dune: Part Two.”

Kanye West Sued By Donna Summers' Estate

Kanye West faces legal action from Donna Summer’s estate for allegedly using an uncleared sample of her work in his latest album, Vultures. The estate of the late singer, who passed away in 2012, has initiated a lawsuit against Kanye, his record label, collaborator Ty Dolla $ign, and others. They say Kanye utilized an unauthorized imitation of Summer's song "I Feel Love." Despite the estate's refusal to clear a sample of "I Feel Love" for Kanye's track "Good (Don't Die)," citing his controversial reputation, the disputed track still appeared on his album, Vultures 1. The lawsuit, filed by attorney Larry Stein, alleges that Kanye and Ty approached the estate on January 31, 2024, days before the projected February 9 release of Vultures 1, seeking clearance for the song. The estate, claiming continued ownership of a portion of the copyright, rebuffed West's request. Seeking substantial damages, Donna Summer's estate seeks an injunction to halt further distribution of the song containing the contested sample.

Jake Gyllenhaal Responds To Doug Liman Boycotting Their 'Road House' Premiere

Jake Gyllenhaal has weighed in on director Doug Liman‘s decision to boycott the premiere of their upcoming remake of the 1989 action movie Road House. Liman is refusing to attend the movie’s March 8 world premiere at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival next month because the film’s studio, Amazon MGM Studios, is releasing Road House on Prime Video without a run in theaters. Gyllenhaal stars in the movie as Elwood Dalton, a bouncer who takes a job in a rowdy Florida bar. In an interview with Total Film, Gyllenhaal said: “I adore Doug’s tenacity, and I think he is advocating for filmmakers, and film in the cinema, and theatrical releases. But, I mean, Amazon was always clear that it was streaming. I just want as many people to see it as possible. And I think we’re living in a world that’s changing in how we see and watch movies, and how they’re made. What’s clear to me, and what I loved so much, was [Liman’s] deep love for this movie, and his pride at how much he cares for it, how good he feels it is, and how much people should see it.”

Gary Sinise's Son Mac Dies Of Rare Cancer At 33

McCanna “Mac” Anthony Sinise, the musician son of actor Gary Sinise, died of the rare spinal cancer Chordoma. Mac Sinise, who had recently completed work on his album Resurrection & Revival, died on January 5 following a years-long battle with the disease. Gary announced his death yesterday on the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website. He wrote: “The week the album went to press, Mac lost his battle with cancer. He died on January 5, 2024 at 3:25pm, and was laid to rest on January 23rd. Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can…I am so blessed, fortunate, and proud to be his dad.” Mac Sinise was diagnosed with Chordoma in August 2018, just two months after Gary Sinise’s wife Moira was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Chordoma affects, on average, only 300 people in the U.S. per year. Mac Sinise also served as drummer in Gary’s band the Lt. Dan Band.

"Mary Poppins" Age Rating Changed In UK Over Discriminatory Language

The UK has changed its age rating for the original “Mary Poppins” movie due to discriminatory language. The Disney movie, which came out in 1964, stars Julie Andrews as magical governess Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke as her chimney-sweep sidekick, Bert. It got 13 Oscar nominations — including one for Best Picture — and won five Academy Awards, including one for Andrews as Best Actress. The movie is being re-released in some movie theaters in the UK next month to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The British Board of Film Classification changed the “Mary Poppins” rating from U — meaning that it contained “no material likely to offend or harm” and is suitable for audiences four years and older — to PG, which delineates “discriminatory language,” and that some scenes may be unsuitable for young children, though unaccompanied children of any age may watch. The offending language in question is the use of the word “hottentots,” which is used in the movie by Admiral Boom (Reginald Owen), including one instance in which he refers to chimney sweeps (like Bert) whose faces are covered in soot. A BBFC spokesperson said the movie “includes two uses of the discriminatory term ‘hottentots.’ While ‘Mary Poppins’ has historical context, the use of discriminatory language is not condemned, and ultimately exceeds our guidelines for acceptable language at U. We therefore classified the film PG for discriminatory language.” Apparently, the word is a racially insensitive term for the Khoekhoe, an indigenous group of nomadic herders in South Africa.

The total is reportedly the amount of money Lemon was set to receive if his final contract ended in 3 and a half years.

"Game Of Thrones" Spinoff 'The Hedge Knight" To Premiere Next Year

Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is coming to HBO next year. The Hedge Knight is based on the Dunk & Egg fantasy novellas by George R.R. Martin, whose A Song of Ice & Fire novels and book Fire & Blood were previously adapted as the HBO series Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, respectively. The Hedge Knight is in pre-production and will premiere in late 2025. The Hedge Knight takes place a century before the events of Game of Thrones and follows two unlikely heroes as they wander Westeros: Ser Duncan the Tall, a young, naïve but courageous knight, and Egg, his diminutive squire.

Michael Jackson's Former Bodyguard Reveals The Real Reason Behind The Singer's Nose Surgery

Michael Jackson's former bodyguard revealed the real reason behind the later singer’s nose surgery. Matt Fiddes, who worked with Jackson for more than a decade, appeared on a recent episode of The Steven Sulley Study podcast to dish the details on why the singer really went under the knife for the first time - sparking a years-long transformation that was the subject of fierce scrutiny. The TV personality explained that MJ had always been teased about the size of his nose, but underwent his first rhinoplasty procedure in 1979. However, Fiddes insisted that it wasn't this teasing that actually prompted him to undergo a rhinoplasty routine - but rather a horrific injury he suffered at the age of 21, as a result of his training routine. “He used to get teased by his family a lot over the size of his nose - being called big nose and all of this stuff,” Fiddes said. “He used to say his dad used to be the main one - ‘you didn't get that from me, you got that from your mom, you didn't get that from my side of the family’ - it hurt him a lot.” But, the teasing alone wasn’t enough to force Jackson to make a change, he said. Matt continued: “Michael used to dance about three hours a day on average. At one stage he was doing 50 spins in a row - it was unbelievable. He fell over and broke his nose and he saw it as the perfect opportunity while he was under anesthetic to just get a smaller nose.” Referring to the rumors that Jackson had multiple plastic surgery procedures throughout his life, Fiddes said he never spoke to the signer about that in detail, but conceded that it was clear to everyone that he'd had work done.

Tom Cruise Splits From Russian Socialite Elsina Khayrova

Tom Cruise has reportedly split from his Russian socialite girlfriend Elsina Khayrova just days after meeting her kids. Cruise and Elsina, who is the ex-wife of oligarch Dimitry Tsvetkov, are first believed to have met last December during a party in Mayfair, where they were seen canoodling. But now reports have emerged they have parted ways, just days after he met her children. Tom is said to have “cooled off the romance” but wanted to remain friends because they live in the same apartment block in London. “To end things on a bad note would have been awkward if they'd bumped into each other in the lift,” a source told The Sun.

Madonna Falls Backward Onstage After Dancer Mishap

On Sunday, Madonna took a tumble on stage while performing her 1986 song “Open Your Heart” after one of her dancers lost their footing — and she handled it like a pro. During the show at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, the latest stop on her Celebration Tour, Madonna sat in a chair while performing the choreography for the track, which is inspired by its iconic music video. After singing a few bars, one of the dancers began to drag her — still singing — in the chair, pulling her across the stage in stiletto heels. The dancer only got about five steps in, however, before they lost their footing, sliding and hitting the floor along with Madonna, who toppled over in the chair. But Madonna didn’t miss a beat. Right after hitting the floor, Madonna resumed the song and rolled effortlessly off of the chair onto the stage while the dancer dragged it away.

Michael Keaton Teases 'Beetlejuice' Sequel

Michael Keaton is teasing the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice film that will hit theaters later this year. The Tim Burton film is a sequel to the 1988 horror comedy that starred Keaton in the titled role. In a recent interview, Keaton opened up about returning to play Beetlejuice. “The one thing that he and I decided on early, early, early on from the beginning, if we ever did it again, I was totally not interested in doing something where there was too much technology,” he told People. “It had to feel handmade.” He continued, “What made it fun was watching somebody in the corner actually holding something up for you, to watch everybody in the shrunken head room and say, ‘Those are people under there, operating these things, trying to get it right.'” Keaton noted, “When you get to do that again after years of standing in front of a giant screen, pretending somebody’s across the way from you, this is just enormous fun.” The movie will be in theaters in September.

John Oliver Offers Clarence Thomas $1 Million Per Year If He Resigns From The Supreme Court

“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver mocked Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on his show Sunday night, offering him $1 million a year and a vehicle if he resigns from his post. Oliver on his show criticized Thomas' vote in 2022 to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that previously guaranteed the right to an abortion. Oliver also referenced that the court is set to consider whether Donald Trump should be barred from states' primary ballots over the Capitol riot. Thomas’ critics have argued that Thomas should recuse himself from Colorado's ballot case, given his wife, Virginia Thomas', past political work. She has repeatedly argued the 2020 election was stolen and sent dozens of texts to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows urging him to fight the results of the 2020 election. Oliver said all Thomas has to do in order to receive the $1 million per year and a "brand new condo on wheels" is sign a contract saying he would resign from the Supreme Court. “Talk it over with your totally best friend in the whole world. Because the clock starts now. Thirty days, Clarence … Let’s do this!" Oliver said.

The WSJ, citing sources familiar with the deal, reports that Azoff’s Iconic has also raised more than $1 billion in new capital for future catalog investments led by the private markets investment firm HPS Investment Partners. Paul Contreras, the man who tackled one of the alleged gunmen at yesterday’s Kansas City Super Bowl parade shooting, described the hectic scene in an interview on CNN last night. Recalling the situation on Erin Burnett OutFront, Contreras said: “I just heard somebody yelling to stop this guy, tackle him, and he was coming in the opposite direction, so I just– you don’t think about it. It’s just a reaction. He got close to me, I got the right angle on him, and I hit him from behind, and when I hit him from behind, I either jarred the gun out of his hand or out of his sleeve ‘cause as I’m taking him down to the ground, I see the gun on the ground.” He continued: “So, I take him down and I’m putting all my body weight on him and then another good samaritan comes over and is helping me because I kind of got him high and the other guy gets him around his waist, and we’re just putting our weight on him and he’s just fighting to get up, but we’re fighting to keep him down.” Contreras said another good samaritan then joined the effort and helped pin down the suspect before police arrived to take over the situation.

Brian May Reveals Why He Never Liked Queen And David Bowie's 'Under Pressure' Collab

"Under Pressure" was a big hit for Queen and David Bowie — but Brian May was never pleased with how the recording turned out. In an interview with Total Guitar, the Queen guitarist reflected on how the 1981 song came together between the two British acts and said Bowie removed some of his guitar parts from the final product, sparking his complicated relationship with the rock song. May told the outlet that an early version of the song sounded like The Who and was massively chord-driven — which he enjoyed. "I was beaming because I liked The Who. I remember saying to David, 'Oh, it sounds like The Who, doesn’t it?' He says, 'Yeah, well it’s not going to sound like The Who by the time I’ve finished with it!' You know, in a joking kind of way. But he didn’t want it to be that way," recalled May. May continued: "So basically it was Freddie and David fighting it out in the studio with the mix. And what happened in the mix was that most of that heavy guitar was lost.” Despite knowing how strongly audiences connected with "Under Pressure," May admitted, "I never liked it, to be honest, the way it was mixed. But I do recognize that it works. It’s a point of view, and it’s done very well. And people love it."
