Petition To Rename Airport For Dolly Parton Amasses 51,000 Signatures
Two Nashville creatives have launched a popular petition to rename the city's airport after Dolly Parton—and it’s gaining major momentum. Comedian Lydia Popovich and comedy label owner Dan Dion started the campaign on Change.org after a failed attempt to rename the airport for Donald Trump. They’d discussed the idea for about two years and finally decided the time was right. The duo says Parton’s universal appeal and positive impact make her the perfect namesake for the airport. “She’s the best of the South,” Popovich said, noting her ability to unify people from all walks of life. So far, over 50,000 people have signed the petition, which was even spotlighted on Change.org’s official Instagram.
