Bryan Adams Reveals The Truth Behind "Summer Of 69" Lyric

Bryan Adams opened up on the I Never Thought It Would Happen podcast, hosted by Chris Difford for the Help Musicians charity, about several personal and career moments. He shared that the lockdown was a much-needed lifesaver for him and his family. He also revealed that about half of the songs he wrote for the Pretty Woman musical were rejected. Adams recounted the story of being reunited with his first guitar — an imitation Stratocaster he bought at age 12 in a music shop in Reading, UK (not a "Five and Dime" as his lyrics suggest). After leaving the guitar with a neighbor when his family moved to Israel, decades passed before someone emailed him claiming to have it. That lead went cold until over ten years later, a stranger in a Berlin club approached Adams with the guitar. The man had inherited it from a friend — the original emailer — who had died in a plane crash. Honoring his friend’s wish, he finally returned the guitar to Adams, who now has it back for good.
