Maher Praises 'Gracious And Measured' Trump After White House Visit
Bill Maher surprised viewers by offering unexpected praise for Donald Trump after a private dinner at the White House in late March, describing the president as “gracious and measured.” Despite being a vocal Trump critic for years, Maher said he found Trump to be more self-aware and even humorous in person. He brought a list of nearly 60 past insults Trump had hurled at him and asked him to sign it—something Trump reportedly took in stride. The dinner, arranged by Kid Rock, revealed a different side of Trump, according to Maher. At one point, Trump even used the word “lost” in reference to the 2020 election, which Maher said surprised him. Maher emphasized he hasn't turned pro-Trump or "gone MAGA," but felt he didn't have to walk on eggshells during the conversation—unlike how he might feel around past Democratic presidents like Obama or Clinton. Maher told his audience that while Trump plays a “crazy person” on TV, that’s not who he encountered that night. “I’m not a liar,” Maher said. “Trump was gracious and measured… and I wasn’t high.”
