MTV Deletes News Archives From Internet, Erasing Over Two Decades Of Articles

The archives of MTV News were deleted Monday, removing decades of music journalism from the internet. The links to mtvnews.com and mtv.com/news began to redirect to MTV's homepage. The links continued to redirect to the home page as of Wednesday evening. The archives contained work from the news site's founding in 1996 that documented the rise of multiple stars and genres. MTV’s news operation was shut down in 2023 as a part of a round of layoffs conducted by parent company Paramount. The layoffs cut 25% of jobs from companies owned by Paramount. CMT (formerly Country Music Television), also owned by Paramount, removed its news archives from its site last week.

Kevin Costner Shuts Down Gayle King

Kevin Costner shut down Gayle King as she tried to probe him on how his alleged demands for more money and reported feuds behind-the-scenes led to him quitting Yellowstone. Costner was vague when he formally announced his departure from the Paramount show last week amid mounting speculation of issues regarding pay, scheduling, and claims he had clashed with creator Taylor Sheridan. Yesterday on CBS Mornings, Kevin stressed that he loved the show and would go back in a second, but refused to reveal info on what really happened. Things got weird when Gayle voiced her confusion as she proceeded to ask what was preventing Kevin from returning to Yellowstone, while also raising the widespread reports of a feud. “But the characterization of you isn't necessarily flattering,” she said. “You made demands, you want to have a certain schedule, you want to shoot at a certain time, you want certain money. If it's not that hard, why can't the two of you be able to work it out? People would love to see that.” Kevin shot back with: “It's not therapy, Gayle. We're not going to discuss this on the show really, honestly.” “I'm a good therapist,” Gayle said. “I've conducted my life in a pretty straightforward way,” Kevin said. “I've never missed any obligations in my entire career, so the idea is wide open for me. It just happens to be like can I fall in love with the writing, can I fall in love with the part that wants to go forward?”

Sarah Michelle Geller Joins Dexter Prequel Starring Patrick Dempsey And Christian Slater

Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined Paramount+ with Showtime’s prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. The actress will play Tanya Martin, the CSI Chief at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter’s new boss. Dexter: Original Sin is set in 1991 Miami, 15 years before the original series, as Dexter “transitions from student to avenging serial killer.” “When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.” Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey also star in the series.

Daryl Hall On The 'Real Truth' Of John Oates Feud

Daryl Hall has opened up about the “real truth” behind his feud with his former Hall & Oates bandmate John Oates. The two have been embroiled in a legal battle after Hall announced he was suing Oates after claiming that he was left “blindsided” by his plan to sell a business stake last November – which Oates described as “inaccurate.” In an interview with Billboard, Hall talked about the origins of their split. “John and I did not have a creative relationship for decades; the last song I wrote with John was in 2000, and that was with somebody else. We toured and we toured and we toured, and it was very restrictive to me, and to John,” he said. He continued: “The real truth of it all is John just said one day he didn’t want to do it anymore. I said, ‘OK’, but the problem is [Oates] didn’t make the parting and breakup easy, and that’s where the difficulties lay and still lay, and that’s all it is.”

Jeremy Allen White Plans To Do His Own Singing In Bruce Springsteen Biopic

“The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White is hoping to do his own singing when he plays Bruce Springsteen in the new 20th Century Studios movie “Deliver Me From Nowhere.” “We’re gonna try. We’re gonna try our best,” White told Variety earlier this week at the season 3 premiere of The Bear in Los Angeles. The movie will explore Springsteen’s life and career at the time of making his seminal 1982 album, Nebraska. White hasn’t yet met with Springsteen but told Variety that they have exchanged some words. “We’ve communicated a little bit through some other people, but I hope this still all comes together,” White said. “We’ve still got a few things, we’ve got some timing stuff to work out, and I’m trying to have a bit of my own process with it before meeting the man, too.”

Matthew Modine Slams Amazon For Changing

Matthew Modine, who starred in the 1987 Stanley Kubrick war movie “Full Metal Jacket,” is upset that Amazon changed the artwork on the platform’s landing page for renting the film. Modine took to X to slam the streamer for tweaking the poster of the Oscar-nominated film. “Who decided to remove ‘BORN TO KILL?’ ‘’ Modine wrote in his tweet, adding, “Not only did they alter a piece of iconic art by Philip Castle, but they completely misunderstood the point of it being there.” On the movie’s original poster, there’s a helmet with “Born to kill” written on it. Prime Video dropped the phrase, and showed the helmet sans the words on their version of the poster for the movie. It was the last Kubrick film released during his lifetime; he died in 1999 from a heart attack at age 70.

Sean Penn opened up about his past relationship with Madonna. Penn told the New York Times that he never physically assaulted the singer when they were married from 1985 to 1989. Penn recalled the time that his home was raided by the SWAT team after Madonna called the police because she was concerned about guns in the house. “I said: ‘I’m not coming out. Alex Trebek Honored With Forever Stamp

On Friday’s episode of Jeopardy!, host Ken Jennings announced that the U.S. Postal Service will issue a Forever stamp honoring Alex Trebek concurrent with the show's 60th Diamond Celebration launched earlier this year. Presales for this special stamp began Friday at usps.com. Trebek, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Canada, died in 2020 after a 37-year run as host of the syndicated show. The grid of 20 identical stamps resembles the array of video monitors that form the game board. On the stamp is written the prompt, "THIS NATURALIZED U.S. CITIZEN HOSTED THE QUIZ SHOW 'JEOPARDY!' FOR 37 SEASONS" and underneath, upside down, is the correct response: "Who is Alex Trebek?" On the stamp pane, relevant category headers appear at the top of each column of stamps, and to the left is a photograph of Trebek with a portion of the "Jeopardy!" set behind him. Antonio Alcalá, an art director for USPS, designed the stamps using photos provided by Sony Pictures Entertainment and hand lettering by Marti Davila. The Alex Trebek stamp will be issued in panes of 20. Forever stamps will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price. The cost of one stamp in July will rise by 5 cents to 73.

Climate Activists Spray Paint Private Jets, Mistakenly Believe Taylor Swift's Plane Was At Airport

A couple of climate activists sprayed two private jets at a UK airport with orange paint yesterday morning – mistakenly claiming that Taylor Swift’s jet was parked nearby. Police were called to Stansted Airport in Essex around 5:10 a.m. local time following reports that two people had broken into the area and damaged two planes. The Just Stop Oil group admitted to being behind the incident, and claimed that Swift’s jet was parked at the airstrip during the demonstration. Stansted Airport, however, denied that Taylor’s plane was there. The two activists – Jennifer Kowalski, 28, and Cole Maconald, 22 — were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. A video posted by Just Stop Oil showed the two using a power tool to cut the airport fence open before dashing across the runway and spraying two jets with orange paint. “We just spray painted the f–k out of this jet,” Kowalski said in a selfie video taken at the airfield. “And the one behind it!” Macdonald chimed in, as both women giggled. “We need an international treaty against the burning of all oil, coal and gas,” Macdonald said in a second video. “While people are starving, the elite and the rich fly thousands and thousands of feet in the air, above us all. Billionaires are not untouchable,” she added.

To qualify, candidates had to be on enough state ballots to reach 270 electoral votes, or enough to win. They also had to receive at least 15% in four separate national polls, among those specified by the network. Jake Tapper and Dana Bash will moderate the June 27 debate from CNN’s Atlanta studios.

Prosecutors: Alec Baldwin Fired Blank At Crew Member Before Fatal 'Rust' Shooting

Alec Baldwin once fired a blank round at a crew member on the set of “Rust,” prosecutors said in new court papers, as they accused the actor of being reckless with firearms while filming. Prosecutors in the New Mexico involuntary manslaughter case against Baldwin said they plan to bring evidence at his trial — scheduled to begin next month - showing that Baldwin had a history of flouting safety protocols on set, which led to Halyna Hutchins’ tragic shooting death in 2021. One such reckless moment came when Baldwin pointed his gun and fired “a blank round at a crew member” while he held the person target in his line of sight, prosecutors alleged in the filing.

Honors Society at Stethem Earns National Award

Robert D. Stethem Educational Center’s National Technical Honors Society (NTHS) was
recently honored on the national level for its dedication and commitment to establishing a strong
foundation of excellence within the chapter. Stethem’s NTHS received the Foundational Chapter
Award through the national society being one of 16 other recipients of the award in the nation.
“We are grateful and honored to receive this chapter award,” Monique Poole, NTHS
advisor at the school, said. “We are striving for greatness, and it makes us feel we are on the right
path. Thank you to everyone, school based and on the board level, that continues to support us.”
As the NTHS advisor, Poole builds relationships with students and assists with the
development of new leaders in the school and communities. “I also love working with NTHS
because they provide an excellent framework for achievement and tools to further develop our
scholars,” she said. Each year in the winter, the school hosts its induction ceremony which
happens to be one of Poole’s favorite parts of the year. “We have the opportunity each year to
acknowledge our staff and community for their contributions,” Poole said. “I am most proud of
the leadership that is continuously demonstrated by our scholars. We have high expectations, but
in turn, we provide the support needed to exceed them,” she said.
Makaila Lowe, rising senior and president of NTHS at Stethem, believes that the center’s
chapter received the award because of the community service that it does. “Also, giving back and
making an impact on the community and working with different partner agencies is why we
received the award,” she said.
Along with Poole, Lowe’s favorite part of being in the society is the induction ceremony.
“It was so special,” Lowe said. “I looked up the seniors and enjoyed receiving my certificate.”
Poole received an award this past year for her involvement in the society on the national
level. With this being the second award this year that Stethem has received, Poole and Lowe are
excited for what next year has to offer. They want to see more student involvement in the society
along with new community service opportunities and partnerships.
“This class is way more timid than other classes, but they are watchers,” Poole said about
the 2024-2025 NTHS members. “They look at those before them and are proactive in their
approach.” She would like to see the group more active on social media and have more exposure
entering this next year. “NTHS is an amazing organization, and the awards are helping us get
noticed but it’s not about the award but the recognition of our students,” Poole said.

The Rainmaker previously was adapted as the aforementioned film written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Matt Damon (as Rudy) and Danny DeVito (as paralegal Deck).

Rob Schneider Unleashes Rant Against Will Smith

Rob Schneider slammed Will Smith in a scathing interview, calling him a liar and an a**hole. Rob appeared on KIIS FM's The Kyle & Jackie O Show on Wednesday morning and didn't hold back on Will - two years after he slapped Chris Rock on stage at the 94th Academy Awards. Rob began: “Will Smith has been hiding the fact of who he really is and it was exposed that night that he's really an a**hole. But it's a deep, dark thing to do that in front of all those people and to a really great legendary comedian who’s literally the best comedian of our generation. You wouldn't have this whole wave of comedy that came after if it wasn't for Chris Rock. He's kicked open the doors.” He continued: “He's a liar. A complete, utter fraud. And it was exposed in that time.” Schneider weighed in on the moment Smith stormed the stage after Rock made a joke about the actor's wife Jada Pinkett Smith. “Will is a *****bag. The thing is that's how politically correct the Academy is. That they were so cowardly. Because if I would have done that, they would have been hauled off to prison, but because they were so worried about being racist or whatever, they were like. ‘We can't offend,’” he said.

Dwayne Johnson Injures Elbow On Set Of 'The Smashing Machine'

Dwayne Johnson sustained a nasty injury to his right elbow on the set of his movie The Smashing Machine, he revealed yesterday on Instagram. It’s unclear whether Johnson’s injury will impact production. “As you guys know, I’m filming a movie called The Smashing Machine,” says Johnson in a recently posted Instagram video, “and anytime your film is called The Smashing Machine, well, you’re kind of going to get smashed up. Look at that sucker right there,” he said - pointing to swelling in his elbow. “It looks like I have a cantaloupe in the bottom of my elbow. I got banged up pretty good today in our scenes, and there might be some soft tissue damage in there.” He said there’s a lot of fluid in his elbow, which will have to come down before he can get “any kind of MRI.” “The pain feels pretty good, but all good. It is what it is until it isn’t,” he said.

Following his interview with Donald Trump last week, Dr. Phil McGraw suggested he got through to the former president in convincing him not to seek retribution against political enemies. Speaking to CNN’s Abby Phillip on Thursday after the interview aired, Phil was asked if he believes Trump will follow through on his calls to punish his foes after his recent conviction on all counts in his hush money trial. “I actually don’t think he will,” McGraw said. “This is something that I think he’s had in his mind that there’s only one way to go, and that’s to get even. And I think I really made some headway with him that that is not the way to go.” “I think it’s a process,” he added. “I think he’ll turn this over and over in his mind, and I don’t think he will do that.”

Zachary Quinto Banned From Restaurant

“Star Trek” actor Zachary Quinto was slammed by a Toronto restaurant for allegedly mistreating the staff and causing a scene in front of the other customers. Manita, a Mediterranean-ish bistro, went after the actor on Instagram on Sunday. “Zachary Quinto – an amazing Spock, but a terrible customer,” a statement on the restaurant’s Instagram Stories began. “Yelled at our staff like an entitled child after he didn’t reply to two texts to inform him his table was ready and refused to believe the empty tables in the dining room weren’t available for him despite being politely informed they were spoken for. Made our host cry and the rest of our brunch diners uncomfortable.” “Mr. Quinto, take your bad vibes somewhere else, we have many lovely celebrities join us at Manita but you are NOT one of them,” the business added. Quinto was in Canada to celebrate his 47th birthday on June 2. In 2009, Quinto took over the role of Spock in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” movie. He reprised the role in the sequels “Star Trek Into Darkness” in 2013 and “Star Trek Beyond” in 2016.
