Jason Bateman Says Matt Damon Pitched Himself for Role in 'Arrested Development' Movie. Bateman added that Damon specifically wanted to play his character, Michael Bluth. Matt Damon was ready to step into the role of Michael Bluth in an Arrested Development movie, per Jason Bateman. The Emmy-winning actor-producer-director made a recent appearance on the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, where he revealed that Damon once pitched himself for a cameo in a potential film adaptation of the hit sitcom. "I remember Matt Damon coming up to me at -- I think it was like a Golden Globes or something -- and I was so excited to meet him and, and he was a huge fan of Arrested Development," Bateman recalled of the interaction. "And he was saying, 'You know, I really think I could play, because I hear you guys are doing the movie, I think I could... can I play you?'" Arrested Development, created by Mitchell Hurwitz, centers on level-headed son Michael Bluth who takes over family affairs after his father is imprisoned. However, the rest of his spoiled, dysfunctional family makes his job unbearable. The series ran from 2003 to 2006 before Netflix revived it for two additional seasons from 2013 to 2019. An idea of a movie was also tossed around at one point. When host Conan O'Brien questioned why Damon would play Bateman's character, the Ozark actor said that Hurwitz "was thinking the story of the Arrested Development movie would be that in the show, Hollywood wanted to make a movie about [the Bluth family], and we certainly couldn't play ourselves, because we're not actors." He added that his version of Michael Bluth would be "on set, watching Matt Damon play Michael Bluth and be so excited." However, Bateman quipped that "David Cross would play Tobias in the film as well, because he was an actor" in the series. O'Brien later asked if there was actually a possibility of an Arrested Development film in the future, to which Bateman admitted, "I don't think anybody gives a shit. I think it's done." As for why Dylan decided to post that particular video, that's not clear, especially since Dylan didn't include any sort of caption with the post. Naturally, the situation has left people confused. Gayle King, Katy Perry and Jeff Bezos' fiancee Lauren Sanchez are set to blast off into space for a historic launch with the Amazon CEO's Blue Origin craft this spring. Gayle King's latest assignment is out of this world. The veteran journalist announced that she is one of the women set to embark on Blue Origin's NS-31 mission to space. Gayle, 70, will be part of the all-women crew with Katy Perry, Lauren S?nchez -- who assembled the team taking flight -- former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn. For the mission, set for some time this spring, the women will travel 62 miles above the earth to the K?rm?n line -- the spot that separates the planet's atmosphere from space -- adding to the very small number of people who have had that experience. After years of covering other people's extraordinary journeys, Gayle admitted she is nervous to be embarking on her own. "I'm so afraid," Gayle said during the announcement on CBS Mornings Feb. 27. "But I'm also so excited about it. I don't know how to explain being terrified and excited at the same time. It's like how I felt about to deliver a baby." She revealed that she was approached for the mission in November and decided ahead of her milestone 70th birthday the following month that she was going to take a leap of faith and try something new. Fans of Black Panther‘s Okoye will have to wait a little longer until they can see Danai Gurira back in action: Plans for the Dora Milaje general’s spinoff series have been scrapped. “I love Okoye. I think fans of Okoye are going to be excited to see her come back,” Marvel Studio’s head of streaming, television and animation Brad Winderbaum said. “But I don’t think it’s going to be on a television show. I can’t say where or when, but I think there’s a lot to look forward to.” Back in May of 2021, reports began circulating that Gurira had closed a deal to star in her own origin spinoff series for Disney+. The Wakanda-based series was supposedly in development by Black Panther writer/director Ryan Coogler. Then, two long years ago, Gurira said on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, when pressed about the rumored series, “I have been told… that I can gently allude to this possibility. So I am gently alluding.” But there’d been no updates since.

Actress Michelle Trachtenberg, known for a bunch of TV and film roles including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Gossip Girl,” has died at the age of 39. She was found around 8 a.m. yesterday at 51-store luxury apartment complex on Central Park South. The actress recently underwent a liver transplant. Her death is not being investigated as suspicious. Trachtenberg recently posted a series of troubling pics on Instagram, in which she appeared gaunt and frail, prompting some fans to comment about her startling weight loss or ask if she was on drugs. Last January, Trachtenberg responded to fan concerns saying she was “happy and healthy” and had never had plastic surgery. Trachtenberg’s first credited role came at the age of nine on the classic 1990s Nickelodeon series “The Adventures of Pete and Pete,” on which she portrayed quirky gal-pal Nona F. Mecklenberg. She went on to star in a variety of kid-oriented movies and shows, making her film debut in 1996’s “Harriet the Spy,” in which she played the title character. As an adult, she played Dawn Summers, the sister of “Buffy’s” eponymous vampire-slaying protagonist, as well as the manipulative, calculating antagonist Georgina Sparks on “Gossip Girl,” which ran for six seasons.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, his wife and their dog were found dead in their New Mexico home, authorities said Thursday.

Foul play was not suspected, but authorities did not release circumstances of their deaths and said an investigation was ongoing.

Hackman, 95, was found dead with his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog when deputies preformed a welfare check at the home around 1:45 p.m., Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Denise Avila said.

The gruff-but-beloved Hackman was among the finest actors of his generation, appearing as both villains, heroes and antiheroes in dozens of dramas, comedies and action films from the 1960s until his retirement in the early 2000s.

He was a five-time Oscar nominee who won for “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven” 21 years apart. His death comes just four days before this year’s ceremony.

The couple’s home is in a gated community just outside New Mexico’s capital city. Hackman moved to the area in the 1980s, where he was often seen around town and served as a board member of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in the 1990s, according to the local paper, The New Mexican.

Aside from appearances at awards shows, he was rarely seen in the Hollywood social circuit and retired about 20 years ago. His was the rare Hollywood retirement that actually lasted.

In his later years, he wrote novels from the hilltop ranch that provided a view of the Rocky Mountains.

An email sent to his publicist was not immediately returned early Thursday.

Kim Kardashian is being sued over an Instagram mix-up. The case, filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, hinges on a February 2024 Instagram Story post in which the criminal justice reform advocate — attempting to raise awareness about Ivan Cantu, a Texas man on death row — posted a photo of the wrong person. While there was an Ivan Cantu awaiting execution in Texas, the photo used by Kardashian in her post was actually of another Ivan Cantu, who lives in New York. Pointing out that at the time Kardashian had over 350 million followers on the platform (she now has 357 million), the suit alleges Cantu suffered severe emotional distress and embarrassment.

Alec Baldwin threatened a Trump impersonator who goaded him about the Rust shooting in a viral video this week. Baldwin was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during a rehearsal on set when the revolver went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza on October 21, 2021. The shooting was front and center of Trump impersonator Jason Scoop's comedy routine as he called Baldwin a murderer outside his NYC home, with the actor threatening to break his neck during the confrontation. Scoop, who was wearing a suit and a blond wig, was seen approaching Baldwin as he unpacked his car, saying: “Alec it's your favorite President. Alec, I will offer you a total pardon because I want to be friends.” Following Baldwin to his car, he said: “I will give you a total pardon for murdering that woman if you kiss the ring, kiss the ring, kiss the ring Alec. Come on, look at Alec Baldwin, he did that impersonation of me, it was not too hot, not too hot... Look at that suitcase. Alec if you don't want that pardon for murdering that woman in cold blood, you can call it first degree.” Scoop then imitated Hutchins, telling Baldwin: “She's looking down on me, smiling, happy, ‘thank you for confronting the man who took me out, who killed me.’” Baldwin responded with: “Now, now, now, let me ask you a question. Jamie Lee Curtis leveled a playful accusation at Colin Farrell during last night’s SAG Awards. Presenting the award for male actor in a television movie or limited series at last night’s show, Curtis opened the envelope and said, “to the man who gave me COVID at the Golden Globes, Colin Farrell.” Farrell took the stage to accept the award for his work on HBO’s DC Comics-inspired The Penguin. Amazon will take creative control of the James Bond franchise under a new joint venture with long-time rights holders Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. The deal comes after Amazon bought MGM Studios in 2022 as a part of its media push. The acquisition gave Amazon distribution rights to the 007 franchise but not creative control. The new joint venture means all involved parties will remain co-owners of the franchise and its intellectual property. The terms of the agreement give Amazon creative control of any new movies. Fans are still waiting to see who will follow Daniel Craig as the iconic spy after the actor's last film, No Time To Die, hit the big screen in 2021. Amazon hasn’t decided yet who the Bond will be or who will direct and write the next film.

Hulu has renewed Paradise for a second season. The renewal news comes ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale, which is scheduled to begin streaming on Tuesday, March 4. Paradise stars This Is Us alum Sterling K. Brown as Secret Service agent Xavier Collins, the man tasked to keep President Cal Bradford (played by James Marsden, Westworld) safe. When the president is killed in the series’ premiere, it unleashes a mystery that puts everyone in Collins’ small community on edge.

Will Smith is teasing that a sequel to Hancock is in the works and wants Zendaya for a role in the film. Will made a surprise appearance on xQc’s live stream on Twitch and answered some fan questions. “There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea,” Smith said during the stream. “We haven’t even talked about it.” He added, “I’m going to give you one little piece. Zendaya [is] being approached for a role in Hancock 2.”

Robert De Niro’s Netflix series “Zero Day” premieres today. Zero Day is a political conspiracy thriller centering on a devastating global cyberattack. Also starring in the series are Angela Bassett and Claire Danes.

Claire Danes is reteaming with the creator of ABC’s My So-Called Life for a new drama series on HBO. Titled The Applebaum Curse, the series is being described as a one-hour drama about a dysfunctional family led by Danes.

Serena Williams has hit back at the backlash she received following her appearance at the 2025 Super Bowl. Williams got some backlash on social media earlier this month for her performance during Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show. Serena appeared on the side of the stage as Kendrick performed a version of his Grammy-winning Drake diss track Not Like Us. Shortly after the event, Williams was slammed for performing the Crip Walk dance during the show, a dance she was also slammed for performing to celebrate her victory at the 2012 London Olympics. Serena was also accused by social media users of appearing to diss Drake, who she is widely believed to have dated in the past, by teaming up with his rap rival Kendrick amid their ongoing feud. In response to the backlash, Serena's husband Alexis Ohanian took to X to defend his wife, writing, "Some of y'all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows....This is bigger than the music." Serena has now taken to X a week later to respond to the criticism. "That there my baby daddy and husband. Always got my back. I Love you," she wrote on Monday. "Gosh I'm so late to the game (I've been sick) & busy investing in billion dollar companies and running @WYNbeauty... def not dancing to be petty lol." She continued, "I think I proved 23 times over (not counting four gold medals) that I simply don't have time for petty. All love and respect always nothing negative here."

Stephen King will see several of his stories adapted for TV and the big screen in the coming months. A film adaptation of King's short story The Monkey opens in theaters Friday, while his novel The Running Man is getting a movie remake that opens in November. Carrie, previously brought to life in an iconic 1976 film, will now become a series.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are the latest stars to fall victim to LA's alarming wave of celebrity home burglaries. The couple weren’t home when the break-in occurred over the weekend, according to TMZ. According to reports, an intruder smashed a window to gain entry, but was ultimately scared off by one of Kidman and Urban’s employees. It remains unclear if anything was stolen, as the couple will need to assess their home upon returning. So far, no arrests have been made, though authorities have launched an official investigation.

Steven Tyler won't return to touring because of the pressure, according to his drummer pal Matt Sorum. Tyler officially retired from the road after suffering a fractured larynx which has affected his voice, but fans were hopeful of a return after he got back on stage to perform at the Jam for Janie charity gig at Los Angeles' Hollywood Palladium earlier this month - however, Velvet Revolver star Matt is adamant the one-off performance won't lead to another Aerosmith tour for Steven.

The Star Wars actor was left scrambling after his suit pants dropped to his knees while he was presenting the Best Film gong at London's star-studded Royal Festival Hall. And while a lectern stopped him from flashing the millions of people who were tuning in to watch on TV, the first few rows, which were packed full of A-listers, saw more than they bargained for. An insider who was allegedly amongst the stars in the front row, told The Sun: “Mark started speaking then his suit trousers just dropped to his knees. It was like they were too big for him. All the big stars such as Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Adrien Brody would have seen it from their angle. Most guests looked horrified but said nothing.” Mark handled the blunder like a pro and didn't stop as he made his way through the speech.

A lawsuit accusing Jay-Z and Sean "Diddy" Combs of raping a woman when she was 13 in 2000 has been withdrawn. The woman’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, filed for voluntary dismissal with prejudice in a Manhattan court. She and her lawyers admitted to inconsistencies in her account but maintained her allegations. Meanwhile, Combs has sued NBCUniversal and Peacock over a documentary he claims promotes conspiracy theories about him. Both Jay-Z and Combs have denied any wrongdoing.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 will stream on Peacock beginning March 16. Taylor Sheridan and John Linson's western, which began airing in 2018, followed the Dutton family and the happenings on their ranch. Kevin Costner portrayed John Dutton, until he left the show because of another film he was working on. After his character's unexpected death, the family is left to protect the ranch from an uncertain future.

Amazon MGM Studios is currently developing a scripted series titled Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, with the Twilight saga star set to play himself and executive-produce. The premise for the series is: When Lautner finished filming the last Twilight saga installment and seemingly disappeared from the public eye, many believed he was simply taking a break from stardom. Instead, he apparently was quietly preparing for his next big supernatural adventure. “Playing himself, Taylor is drawn into a secret society of werewolf trackers who need his unique expertise,” the synopsis reads. “As he navigates his double life — ‘Hollywood actor by day, supernatural warrior by night’ — Taylor must wrestle with the ultimate irony: fighting the very creatures that made him famous. Between saving the world, reviving his career, and falling in love, he faces the ultimate question: What happens when your biggest role becomes your greatest enemy?”

Disney+ is updating its content advisory for older films like Peter Pan and Dumbo, shortening the warning about stereotypes and negative depictions. The previous disclaimer mentioned "negative depictions and/or mistreatment of peoples or cultures," while the new version states: "This program is presented as originally created and may contain stereotypes or negative depictions." Disney first introduced content warnings in 2019 due to racist portrayals in films from the 1940s and '50s.

A popular actor is poised to play a beloved Harry Potter character. John Lithgow is in final negotiations to portray Professor Albus Dumbledore in HBO‘s high-profile series adaptation of the hugely popular fantasy books. HBO declined to comment. “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation,” the network said in a statement. “As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.” The Harry Potter series, designed to run over a decade, comes from writer/showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director/executive producer Mark Mylod. Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, at the time of the original announcement called the show a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s novels which will “dive deep into each of the iconic books.” Dumbledore is the headmaster of the Hogwarts wizarding school and the leader of the Order of the Phoenix whose goal is fighting the Dark wizard Lord Voldemort. The Harry Potter TV series, which will be filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden where the movies were shot, is scheduled to debut on HBO in late 2026 or early 2027.

Sony Pictures has unveiled the cast of the upcoming Anaconda reboot starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd. In a YouTube clip, Black sings the names of the actors appearing in the film, which opens in theaters Christmas Day. Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Selton Mello and Daniela Melchior will join Black and Rudd in the new movie. The original 1997 film featured Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz and Jon Voight. The new movie follows the mishaps a friend group encounters in the jungle as they seek to film a new version of movie they enjoyed when they were younger. And when we bring that snake back home, we're gonna have ourselves a movie."

Yesterday, Kelly Clarkson confirmed Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions - The Las Vegas Residency will be featured at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace over 18 dates. Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath are getting ready to reunite for one last performance. The concert, dubbed Back To The Beginning, was announced yesterday by Ozzy's wife Sharon Osbourne and bandmate Tony Iommi at Birmingham's Villa Park, where the event will take place on July 5. The headlining performance will be the band's first in twenty years and will see the original line-up of Ozzy, Tony, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler take to the stage together. Ozzy has been unable to tour in recent years due to his Parkinson's disease and spinal injuries. However, the rocker is set to play a short solo set before joining his bandmates.

Jelly Roll has sealed a deal to join this upcoming season of ABC’s “American Idol” as the show’s first-ever “artist in residence.” According to the network, the singer will join the show during its “Hollywood Week” episodes, and then continue to appear throughout the season. Jelly Roll previously served last season as a guest mentor and performer on “Idol,” appearing on the show during its visit last year to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii. This time, as the first-ever “American Idol” “artist in residence,” Jelly Roll will become “a permanent fixture this season and will work closely with the Idol hopefuls, giving them firsthand advice on how to navigate the journey.” The new season of “Idol” premieres March 9th.

Ben Affleck is ramping things up on his upcoming Netflix thriller Animals as he is not only on board to direct, but sources now say he’ll star as well. Gillian Anderson is also on board from a script by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray. The plan is for the film to shoot in Los Angeles. Plot details are being kept under wraps other than the film centers on a kidnapping.

Travis Kelce appeared to act very coy about whether or not he will be popping the question to his girlfriend Taylor Swift at halftime during the Super Bowl while talking with reporters at the Super Bowl's opening night event in New Orleans on Monday. When asked by a reporter if he planned to propose, Kelce said: “Wouldn’t you like to know.”

Josh Harris, the controlling owner of the Washington Commanders, confirmed on Monday that the team will retain its current name. Harris, who acquired the team in 2023 from former owner Dan Snyder, emphasized the name's significance, especially following the team's success under rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who led them to the NFC championship game. Harris, a fan of Washington football, said: "I think it's now being embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff, so, we're going with that." Marvel Studios celebrated the release of the first Fantastic Four: The First Steps teaser trailer with an event yesterday at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The countdown began on YouTube about an hour prior to the "launch" in Huntsville, Ala., which was hosted by Angelique Roche. Viewers saw various images from the museum during the "Future Foundation Live Broadcast," as they awaited the trailer's premiere. Cast members Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Thing) and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) then joined Roche on the stage. First Steps hits theaters July 25th. The film is the second reboot of the Fantastic Four film series; the original 2005 adaptation starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis, while a 2015 reboot featured Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell.

More than two decades after Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended its seven-season run, the supernatural drama is eyeing a revival with a new chapter in the franchise. A followup series is nearing a pilot order from Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar expected to star, reprising her role as Buffy Summers, sources said. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, a self-professed lifelong Buffy fan, is set to direct the pilot.

Following their nude stunt at the Grammys, people are calling for Kanye West and his wife Bianca Censori to be barred from future red carpet events. The rapper and the Australian architect caused a stink at the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday when Censori removed her coat to reveal a completely see-through mesh dress worn without underwear. In a statement yesterday, the star said: "My family's safety, as well as the innocent people being taken advantage of, is my deep concern, and there will be a time when I will comment more, but for now our focus is helping law enforcement handle this matter." "Please be aware that I do not participate in any form of social media. Any accounts pretending to be me or anyone associated with me are fake accounts and have been created for financial gain or to exploit people around me," added Bullock. Will Ferrell revealed the practice that he feels should never be a part of wedding receptions. The actor - who has been busy promoting his latest movie “You're Cordially Invited” with castmate Reese Witherspoon - opened up about the topic during a recent interview this week. At one point, he was asked what he thought should be banned when it came to weddings and he replied with: “Cash bar.” With a cash bar, wedding guests are required to pay for their own drinks due to the hosts of the ceremony not covering the cost - which has been a controversial topic. Will then added of cash bars in a chat with BuzzFeed UK: “That's rude.” Witherspoon, who also joined in on the interview, agreed with Will and stated, “That's in really poor taste.”
