PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Aug. 26, 2026 – The Calvert County Department of Planning & Zoning, Inspections & Permits Division, will begin offering an expedited permit review process for eligible residential projects Sept. 1, 2026. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis through the online portal only.
Expedited permitting will only be available for non-Critical Area residential projects, including:
· Interior renovations with no additional square footage
· Decks
· Porches
· Accessory structures less than 500 square feet
· Inground and aboveground swimming pools
· Roof-mounted solar panel installations
· Foundation and crawl space repairs
· Pellet or wood stove installations/replacements without the addition of a chimney
Ineligible projects include:
· Critical Area projects
· Projects requiring a variance
· New single-family dwellings
· All commercial projects
· Structures larger than 500 square feet
· Additions that create new living space
· Basement finishing
· Properties with active code enforcement actions
· Accessory dwelling units
Once an expedited-permit application has been submitted, it will be reviewed by agencies within two business days after the Environmental Health review fee has been paid by the applicant. For more information about the process, visit the expedited permitting page.
