St. Mary’s County, MD – The St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee (RCC) is deeply saddened by the death of Commissioner President candidate Tom Jarboe on August 5, 2026. Central Commi?ee Chairwoman Jennifer Boyd said “Tom Jarboe was a true son of St. Mary’s County and lived a life of service. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. We were all fortunate to have Tom for as long as we did and we will miss him.” This unfortunate loss means that the RCC is tasked with selecting a replacement candidate to fill the Commissioner President slot on the ballot for the Republican Party. The RCC has worked closely with both state party officials and the Maryland Board of Elec?ons to ensure that all rules were followed and the strict election law timelines were adhered to. On August 12th the RCC met and voted to appoint Roy Alvey to fill the role as the Republican Candidate for the St. Mary’s County Commissioner President position on the ballot. Roy is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County and has a deep love for the mother-county. Roy is a US Army Veteran, a man who is deeply devoted to his family, and he has served on numerous boards and commissions. He received the second highest number of votes in the Republican Primary election earlier this year. Central Committee Chairwoman Jennifer Boyd commented “Thank you to everyone who par?cipated in this difficult but important process. We had an excellent group of candidates to choose from, and I am confident we have a strong candidate in Roy Alvey and that he will work to ensure the con?nued success for St. Mary’s County. Roy is prepared to work hard during the campaign season to ensure voters have the opportunity to further get to know him. I am asking all Republicans and all residents of St. Mary’s County to take time to research all of our great candidates and ensure you get out to vote!” Roy Alvey will appear on the ballot for the General Election along with the other Republican candidates working for St. Mary’s County at the local and state level. There are multiple methods for voting in the upcoming General Election. If you wish to vote by mail-in ballot, it must be requested by Tuesday, October 27th if you want your ballot mailed to you. Mailin ballots can be returned via mail or placed in one of the ballot drop boxes located throughout the county. If you wish to vote in person, the three St. Mary’s County Early Vo?ng locations will be open Thursday, October 22nd through Thursday, October 29th from 7 am to 8 pm every day. The final opportunity to vote will be on November 3rd from 7 am to 8 pm at all of our local polling locations.
