Glenn Mains Appointed Chief Information Officer

LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary's County (CSMC) are pleased to announce the appointment of Glenn Mains as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO), leading the County's Information Technology Department. Mr. Mains brings more than 30 years of information technology experience, including over two decades of executive leadership in local government, with expertise spanning enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, applications development, and technology modernization.

Most recently, Mr. Mains served as Chief Technology Officer and Associate Director of Enterprise Architecture for Prince George's County Government, where he directed enterprise technology strategy and architecture supporting more than 30 county agencies. Throughout his career, he has led large-scale initiatives involving network infrastructure, application development, data center operations, telecommunications, cloud modernization, and cybersecurity governance, helping organizations strengthen operations through strategic technology investments.

Mains holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, a Master of Science in Computer Management, and a Master of Business Administration in Finance. In addition to his professional leadership, he serves as an adjunct instructor, mentoring and preparing the next generation of information technology professionals.

"His extensive experience, combined with his strategic vision and commitment to public service, make him exceptionally well-qualified to guide our Information Technology Department and support the County's continued innovation and operational excellence."

Mr. Mains shared his appreciation and enthusiasm:

Technology plays a vital role in delivering efficient, secure, and reliable public services, and I am excited to work alongside the talented employees across County Government to strengthen our technology infrastructure, enhance cybersecurity, and support innovative solutions that benefit both our workforce and the residents we serve."

Mains will assume the role of Chief Information Officer effective July 27, 2026.

The Information Technology Department provides technology services that support County Government operations, including cybersecurity, network and telecommunications infrastructure, business applications, technical support, systems administration, and strategic technology planning. Under Mr. Mains' leadership, St. Mary's County Government looks forward to continuing to strengthen secure, reliable, and innovative technology services that support employees, residents, and the community.
