Early this morning firefighters from the Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department responded to a two story single family home on fire at 5450 Powerline Place, Indian Head. It took the firefighters about 2 hours to put out the blaze. The occupant was alerted to the smell of smoke in the home and upon investigating discovered the fire. While getting out of the home they sustained burns to the hands and were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Due to heavy ice conditions on the road, the fire department had to utilize multiple brush trucks to access the structure. The house was completely destroyed as a result of the fire. One fire responder was also transported to the hospital after falling on the ice. The estimated loss in the fire is $300,000.
