[Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025] On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Commissioners held the annual State Legislative Proposals Work Session. The yearly process facilitates the completion of the state legislative package sent to the Charles County State Legislative Delegation when the Maryland General Assembly convenes in January. This year, Commissioners reached consensus on 14 proposals for the 2026 package. Commissioners will hold an additional work session on Sept. 30 to hear more information on three proposals that are still under consideration.
Briefings
- Joel Binkley, Planning Supervisor, and Cathy Thompson, Deputy Director, Department of Planning and Growth Management provided an update on the Affordable Housing Work Group Report. The report contains strategy recommendations, quantifies needs in the short and long term, and includes an Implementation Framework and Milestones. Additional public engagement through the Planning Commission and dialogue with stakeholders is planned, followed by an overall strategy presentation scheduled before the end of this year.
- Jacob Dyer, Director of Fiscal and Administrative Services, and Samantha Chiriaco, Chief of Budget, provided a briefing on the General Fund for the Fourth Quarter for Fiscal Year 2025. Commissioners approved the requested fund balance reserves as presented.
- Jacob Dyer, Director of Fiscal and Administrative Services, and Kelli Scherer, Budget Analyst II, held a briefing on the American Rescue Plan Act. Commissioners also approved a motion to extend the Tri-County Council food insecurity partnership deadline to Dec. 31, 2025.
