May 13th St. Mary's County Commissioner Meeting Rollup

LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) began their business meeting with an invocation and the pledge, followed by approval of the consent agenda.

 

The CSMC then presented proclamations in recognition of Lyme Disease Awareness Month, Stroke Awareness MonthNational Skilled Nursing Care Week, and Older Americans Month

 

For their main agenda items, the commissioners took the following action:

  • Repealed and replaced Ordinance 2017-30 with the proposed ordinance to designate which county roads golf carts can be legally driven on.
  • Approved the request to change the land use designation of the property located at ZONE24-0040 (20698 Goddard Rd.) to Mixed-Use Medium-Intensity and zoning designation to Medium–Intensity Mixed Use. 
  • Approved the proposed revisions to the Animal Control Ordinance.

 

During County Administrator Time, the Commissioners took the following action:

  • Reviewed future CSMC meeting agendas.
  • Approved the request from the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office to convert two positions to create two Assistant State’s Attorney I Positions.
  • Approved the transfer of the County’s portion of the 2025 Private Activity Bond allocation authority.
  • Approved the FY2025 Hold Harmless Notice of Grant Award.
  • Approved the budget amendment increasing the Commissioner’s Emergency Reserve by $507,866 due to salary savings.
  • Approved the budget amendment increasing Highway Division snow removal accounts.

 

The Commissioners wrapped their business meeting with Commissioner Time.

The next Commissioners meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 9 a.m., beginning with the joint meeting of CSMC and the St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission. The CSMC will then reconvene at 10:30 a.m. for their regular business meeting. Both will take place in the CSMC Meeting Room, on the 1st floor of the Chesapeake Building, located at 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown.
