Man Convicted of Vehicular Manslaughter for Fatal Crash in Mechanicsville

LEONARDTOWN, MD (March 24, 2025) – State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling announced today that Anthony Michael Carlucci, 50, of Waldorf, Maryland, has been convicted of manslaughter by vehicle in connection with a high-speed crash that claimed the life of another.

In May 2023, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision in Mechanicsville involving two overturned vehicles. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a three-vehicle crash where one victim sustained minor injuries and another was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An extensive investigation revealed that Carlucci attempted to pass multiple vehicles by driving on the shoulder and struck the victim’s vehicle causing it to overturn. Excessive speed was determined to be a significant factor.

“Every action behind the wheel carries great responsibility. The Defendant’s choice to excessively speed and recklessly endanger those on the road needlessly took an innocent life and will cause a lifetime of heartbreak for the victim’s family,” said State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling. “Our office is committed to holding dangerous drivers accountable and ensuring safer roads for our community–because everyone deserves to make it home to their loved ones.”

Carlucci will remain held without bond while pending sentencing. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Mike McGraw prosecuted the case on behalf of the citizens of St. Mary’s County.

Corporal Jason Smith of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was the lead investigator.

The Honorable Joseph Stanalonis presided over the case.
