Patrol Officers Apprehend Theft Suspect Who Assaulted Store Clerk
Patrol officers locate suspect who stole cigarettes and assaulted a store clerk: On March 18 at 6 p.m., a female suspect entered a convenience store in the 3600 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf. She walked behind the counter, grabbed several packs of cigarettes, and walked outside without paying. The clerk attempted to recover the stolen merchandise at which time the suspect punched her in the face, breaking the clerk’s eyeglasses. The suspect continued assaulting the clerk and then walked away. Officers canvassed the area and located the suspect near a commuter lot on Route 925. Shannon Nicole Smallwood, age 36, of Waldorf, was charged with assault, theft, destruction of property, and other related charges. On March 19, a judge ordered Smallwood to be held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. Officer Huston made the apprehension.
