November 19th St. Mary's County Commissioner Meeting

LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary's County (CSMC) began their business meeting with an invocation and the pledge, followed by approval of the consent agenda.

 

The CSMC then presented proclamations in recognition of World Children’s DayThe Great American SmokeoutGiving Tuesday, and National Diabetes Awareness Month. The Commissioners then recognized the graduates of the 2024 Citizens Academy program. 

 

The Commissioners then received a Board of Health briefing from Dr. Meena Brewster, St. Mary’s County Health Officer.

 

The CSMC also received a briefing from the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce detailing the Chamber’s activities and accomplishments in 2024 and their schedule of events for 2025.

 

During County Administrator Time, the Commissioners took the following action:

  • Reviewed future CSMC meeting agendas.
  • Approved the FY2024 Sub-Recipient Agreement for the State Homeland Security Grant.
  • Approved the FY2024/2025 Emergency Management Performance Grant.
  • Approved the use of ARPA grant funds for the Department of Emergency Servies radio microwave replacement.
  • Declined the request to forward the recommendations of the 2024 St. Mary's County Compensation Review Commission to the St. Mary's County Delegation.
  • Deferred decision on the request to forward the legislative proposal to the St. Mary's County Delegation authorizing issuance of $94 million in public facilities bonds for the FY 2026 and FY 2027 budgets.
  • Approved the request to forward the legislative proposal to the St. Mary's County Delegation allowing the Alcohol Beverage Board to issue multiple licenses as appropriate.
  • Deferred decision on the request to forward the legislative proposal to the St. Mary's County Delegation mandating prompt repayment by the State of any motor fuel taxes paid by school bus drivers operating a school bus for the Board of Education.                                                                                                                                                                                   
  • Approved the request to forward the legislative proposal to the St. Mary's County Delegation amending the term of service for members of the Library Board of Trustees.
  • Approved the resolution recognizing December 24, 2024, and December 26, 2024, as additional paid holidays for employees in calendar year 2024.

 

The Commissioners wrapped their business meeting with Commissioner Time.

There will be no CSMC meeting on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. The Commissioners and Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Patuxent River (NAS PAX) will hold a joint meeting on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 9 a.m. in the Frank Knox Building, located just outside of NAS PAX Gate 2 at 21866 Cedar Point Road, Patuxent River. The CSMC will reconvene that day for their regular business meetings at 11 a.m. in the CSMC Meeting Room (1st floor, Chesapeake Building, 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown).
