Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

LEONARDTOWN, MD (May 24, 2024) – The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office urges all residents and visitors to make responsible choices and avoid driving under the influence during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

To enhance road safety during the holiday weekend, the Sheriff's Office will increase traffic patrols throughout the county. These heightened efforts align with a nationwide campaign to prevent drunk driving and protect all road users.

Here are some tips to help keep our community safe:

Plan and designate a sober driver before any festivities begin.

Use public transportation or ride-sharing services if you have been drinking.

If you see a friend attempting to drive drunk, take their keys and help them find a safe way home.

Always wear your seatbelt and ensure that all passengers do the same.

Report any suspected impaired drivers to 911 immediately.
