On Tuesday, Jan. 30, Wes Adams, County Attorney, presented commissioners with a proposed bill that adopts changes to the county’s code of ethics to reflect a change in state law. The changes included definitions for principal address and secondary home, added a one-year prohibition barring a former lobbyist, who is subsequently elected to office, from participating in certain matters, and other changes.
The county attorney informed the commissioners that the changes were made to reflect changes meant to take place as the result of a previous audit. Commissioners introduced the bill and scheduled it for a public hearing on Tues, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
- Danielle Mitchell, Associate County Attorney, gave commissioners a legislative update on the 2024 Maryland General Assembly session. Commissioners also gave consensus to send letters of support for several bills, including a bill that would create regulations on how golf carts can be operated in Cobb Island.
- Staff presented a briefing and requested approval to introduce and schedule a public hearing for Zoning Text Amendment 23-177: Changes to the Transit Oriented Development Zone. Introduced as Proposed Bill 2024-02, the amendment would allow motor vehicle fuel sales use and car washes in the Transit Oriented Development District. Commissioners Introduced the bill and scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
- Stacy Schaefer, Executive Director of the Resilience Authority of Charles County, provided an update on efforts by the Resilience Authority of Charles County over the last year.
- Staff provided a briefing on updates to the marketing of county boards and commissions.
Annual reports
Commissioners received updates on the activities of the Charles County Planning Commission, Charles County Board of Appeals, and the Charles County Board of License Commissioners (Liquor Board) over the last year.
Recognition
Commissioners recognized length of service awards for the fourth quarter of 2023 and the top performer of the fourth quarter of 2023.
