HBO has ordered an eight-episode sequel series to Crazy Rich Asians, with Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Ronny Chieng confirmed to reprise their roles. The original film ended with Wu and Golding’s characters engaged, while Yeoh played Golding’s formidable mother and Chieng portrayed his cousin. Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Author Kevin Kwan, producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, and director Jon M. Chu are also executive producing. Lim described the new series as “a Crazy Rich family reunion.” Although Kwan wrote two follow-up novels, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, HBO has not revealed which storylines will inspire the series. Production is scheduled to begin next year.
