Melissa McCarthy is opening up about the JonBenét Ramsey case as she prepares to play JonBenét’s mother, Patsy Ramsey, in Netflix’s upcoming limited series The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey. McCarthy told Variety that her personal feeling is that no one in the Ramsey family was responsible for JonBenét’s death. She acknowledged that she doesn't have the authority to determine what happened, but said she needed to settle on her own belief while portraying Patsy. McCarthy said she researched the case extensively, including police and coroner reports, but stressed that the Netflix series isn't designed as a traditional “whodunnit.” Instead, she described it as a character study examining the Ramsey family and everyone affected by the case. JonBenét was found dead in the basement of her family's Boulder, Colorado, home in December 1996. Her death was ruled a homicide, and the case remains unsolved. Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in 2006. The series, starring McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy and John Ramsey, is scheduled to premiere on Netflix December 10.
