Alec Baldwin Begs Critics To 'Leave Me Alone' In Emotional Rust Trial Documentary

Alec Baldwin is opening up about one of the darkest chapters of his life in a new documentary, The Trial of Alec Baldwin, which takes viewers behind the scenes of the legal battle following the fatal 2021 shooting on the set of Rust. In the newly released trailer, Baldwin becomes emotional as he recalls the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed when a prop revolver he was holding discharged during filming in New Mexico. Director Joel Souza was also injured. Baldwin has maintained that he never pulled the trigger and believed the gun contained no live ammunition. At one point, Baldwin admits he desperately wanted to be acquitted so he could simply walk away and have everyone "leave me alone." He also reflects on learning that Hutchins had died, saying he was in shock and that he would have done anything possible to bring her back. Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter charge was dismissed by a New Mexico judge in 2024 after prosecutors were found to have improperly handled evidence. Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, meanwhile, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months before being released early. The documentary also features Baldwin's wife, Hilaria, as the family deals with intense media attention and the emotional fallout from the case. Cameras reportedly followed Baldwin beginning in 2023 as the legal drama unfolded. And there's an interesting connection involving the president: the documentary is directed by Rory Kennedy, the sister of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as President Trump's Secretary of Health and Human Services. Baldwin, of course, is also famous for portraying President Trump on Saturday Night Live. The Trial of Alec Baldwin hits theaters October 1 and promises to show Baldwin, in his own words, at what he calls some of the worst moments of his life.
