Mel Gibson Slammed For Mocking Deaf ASL Interpreter On Stage At Fan Expo
Mel Gibson is facing backlash after a video appeared to show him making exaggerated hand gestures behind an American Sign Language interpreter at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto. Critics accused the actor of mocking the interpreter and deaf culture. Gibson apologized, saying his behavior was “spontaneous thoughtless idiocy” and insisting there was no malicious intent. The incident is drawing renewed attention because of Gibson’s long history of controversies, including past antisemitic and racist remarks and a 2011 no-contest plea for battering his former girlfriend.
