Leo DiCaprio, Jeff Bezos Set $200 Million Fund To Recover Endangered Species

Leonardo DiCaprio's conservation group Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund have launched the Phoenix Species Project, a $200 million global effort aimed at preventing the extinction of 100 critically endangered species. The initiative will support recovery efforts in 30 countries, focusing on everything from mammals and birds to reptiles, fish, plants, and insects, while partnering with Indigenous communities, local conservationists, and scientists. The Bezos Earth Fund is contributing $100 million, with Re:wild matching that amount through support from DiCaprio and other philanthropic partners. Organizers say the project is the largest single charitable commitment ever dedicated to saving endangered species and is designed to provide long-term funding instead of short-term grants, giving at-risk wildlife a better chance at recovery.
