Tom Cruise is officially returning as NASCAR hotshot Cole Trickle in a long-awaited sequel to the 1990 racing hit Days of Thunder. Paramount is developing the film, with director Jonathan Levine in talks to helm the project and legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer returning as well. Story details are being kept secret, but the script is written by Will Staples. Cruise's return comes after the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick, and fans have been hoping he'd revisit another classic role. Director Joseph Kosinski has even floated the idea of a crossover featuring Cruise's Cole Trickle racing against Brad Pitt's F1 character, Sonny Hayes. No release date or additional casting has been announced yet.
