One year after Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death, his widow, Tenisha Warner, has filed a lawsuit against his mother, Pamela Warner, who serves as trustee of the Warner Family Trust. Tenisha claims that under a 2022 prenuptial agreement, the late actor was required to maintain a $1 million life insurance policy naming her as the sole beneficiary, but alleges he never obtained the policy. She is seeking more than $1.27 million, which includes the life insurance amount, anniversary and retirement account obligations, and nearly $195,000 in unpaid salary for her work as his "chief of staff." Because she believes Warner's estate won't have enough assets to cover the debt, Tenisha wants the family trust to pay the amount. She is also asking the court to block any trust distributions until the case is resolved, along with interest and attorney's fees. The lawsuit was filed on the first anniversary of Warner's accidental drowning in Costa Rica at age 54. On the same day, Pamela Warner posted an emotional tribute to her son, reflecting on a year marked by grief, personal growth, and what she described as discovering both the kindness and greed people are capable of. Meanwhile, Tenisha continues to honor her late husband through the Warner Family Foundation and River & Ember, organizations she launched with their daughter to support young artists and families.
