Ryan Reynolds heads behind enemy lines in the first trailer for Mayday, Apple TV+'s new action-comedy movie premiering September 4. Reynolds plays Lieutenant Troy "Assassin" Kelly, a U.S. Navy pilot whose secret Cold War mission over Soviet territory goes terribly wrong, leaving him stranded in Russia. Instead of becoming a prisoner, he's rescued by an unlikely ally—Nikolai Ustinov, a gruff former KGB agent played by Kenneth Branagh, who patches him up with some less-than-ideal battlefield surgery and develops an unexpected friendship with the stranded American. The film blends action, comedy and Cold War espionage as the odd couple works together to get Kelly home. The cast also includes Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova and David Morse. Mayday was written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, with Reynolds also serving as a producer through his Maximum Effort banner.
