The first trailer has been released for The Westies, an eight-episode MGM+ crime drama premiering July 12. Starring J.K. Simmons and Tom Brittney, the series follows New York City's notorious Irish-American gang in the early 1980s as they battle internal power struggles, clash with the Gambino crime family, and attract FBI attention. Creator Chris Brancato says viewers shouldn't get too attached to the characters because there's a significant body count. To recreate gritty 1980s New York, producers built a 240-foot street set in Toronto, complete with period details. Brancato also joked that while the era featured President Trump, the show leaves him out because "he gets enough press."
