Peabo Bryson Dies At 75

Peabo Bryson — the legendary R&B singer whose voice powered Disney classics like “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World” — has died at age 75, according to a statement from his family. No cause of death was given, though the family shared that he had suffered a stroke on Sunday. They said Bryson “transitioned peacefully” yesterday, surrounded by family and loved ones. For more than five decades, Bryson’s unmistakable voice became the soundtrack to weddings, love stories, celebrations, and comfort moments across generations. His family said they’re “tremendously moved” by the global outpouring of love and are asking for privacy as they grieve. While many know him for his Disney duets with Celine Dion and Regina Belle, Bryson’s career stretched far beyond those hits. He came up in the 1970s, released his first solo album in 1976, and went on to deliver a long string of R&B favorites like “Feel the Fire,” “Reaching for the Sky,” “I’m So Into You,” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.” He also recorded a full duets album with Roberta Flack, appeared on the soap One Life to Live, and became known for his signature romantic ballads throughout the ’80s and ’90s.
