Sherlock Holmes is getting another TV universe expansion, but this time the spotlight is shifting to his legendary enemy, Professor Moriarty. A new series currently titled Moriarty is in development from Fremantle and Archery Pictures. The show reimagines Moriarty as a modern-day criminal mastermind who secretly runs organized crime across Northern England while working publicly as a professor of criminal psychology at Durham University. Things get messy when another criminal organization threatens his empire, forcing Moriarty to team up with police as a consultant to take down the competition — all while hiding the fact that he’s basically the guy causing half the crime in the first place. Casting hasn’t been announced yet, but the role has big shoes to fill after portrayals by actors like Andrew Scott, Ralph Fiennes and Jared Harris.
