"Rooster" Is HBO's Biggest Comedy Launch Since 'Hung' And 'Sex And The City'
Rooster just pulled off something HBO hasn’t seen in a comedy lineup in more than 15 years. According to Warner Bros. Discovery, the Steve Carell-led series delivered HBO’s most-watched debut season for a comedy since Hung premiered in 2009. The only first-season HBO comedy that performed better was Sex and the City back in 1998. The season finale, which aired May 10, brought in 2.2 million viewers during its first three days. Across all 10 episodes, the series is averaging 6.5 million viewers since debuting March 8. That puts Rooster ahead of several major HBO comedy favorites from the past 15 years, including Enlightened, Girls, Veep, Silicon Valley and Insecure.
