Shakira Concert In Rio Generates $160 Million For Local Economy

Shakira just made history in Rio. Her free Copacabana Beach concert drew an estimated 2 million people, according to official city data — one of the largest crowds the iconic shoreline has ever seen. The event generated an estimated $160 million in economic impact, boosting hotels, restaurants, transportation, and retail across the city. The show was part of Rio’s “Todo Mundo no Rio” initiative, a government?led program designed to bring major tourism and revenue to the city during May, typically a slow month. Rio deployed a full?scale operation for security, logistics, and public services, with the city’s Operations and Resilience Center running at full capacity. The night opened with a 1,500?drone display, forming a giant she?wolf in the sky — a nod to Shakira’s signature symbol. Minutes later, she hit the stage wearing Brazil’s colors, speaking in Portuguese, and telling the crowd: “Brazil, I love you. It is magical to see millions of souls together.”
