Paramount has officially confirmed that a sequel to Top Gun: Maverick is now in active development, with a script currently being written. Tom Cruise is expected to return as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, and longtime producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also back on board. The studio reaffirmed the project during its CinemaCon presentation, noting that writer Ehren Kruger, who co?wrote Maverick, is returning to pen the new installment. The move comes after Top Gun: Maverick became the highest?grossing film of Cruise’s career, earning roughly $1.49 billion worldwide and winning the Oscar for Best Sound.
