Kate Winslet is reportedly in talks to join the upcoming film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, marking her move into another major fantasy franchise after her time in the Avatar series. The movie will be directed by Andy Serkis, who will also return to play Gollum—the motion-capture role he made famous in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the rest of the original trilogy. The story takes place between The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey era events and the main Lord of the Rings timeline, following Gandalf and Aragorn as they search for Gollum to learn more about Bilbo’s mysterious ring—later revealed to be the One Ring. Veteran franchise creators Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens are producing the film. Familiar faces are also returning, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, while Elijah Wood has hinted he may reprise his role as Frodo. The film is scheduled for a Dec. 17, 2027.
