Harry Styles Says He's Struggled For Years With Fame & Isolation, But Running Helps
Instead of the usual glossy music mag rollout, Harry Styles chose something a little more on-brand for where his head’s at — he’s on the cover of Runner’s World ahead of his new album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, out March 6. Styles says running has become one of the most important parts of his life — especially after years of dealing with intense fame that began when One Direction formed on The X Factor in 2010. As his celebrity grew, he found himself saying no to almost everything — birthdays, trips, openings — sometimes out of necessity, sometimes because isolation felt safer. He admitted that protecting himself from negativity also meant missing out on positive experiences. Running, though, became a kind of reset button. He describes a “hypnotic, meditative” connection between distance running and making music, saying it’s when he does some of his clearest thinking. Running also helps him stay grounded during massive tours.
