Tom Hanks' Son Chet Says He's Stuck In Colombia Without A U.S. Passport
Chet Hanks says he’s currently living that “should’ve packed better” life. The 35-year-old son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson posted on Instagram claiming he’s stuck in Medellín, Colombia after trying to fly back to the U.S. without his American passport. Chet went to Puerto Rico for a friend’s birthday, then made a last-minute hop to Colombia to visit another friend. He traveled using his Greek passport—he’s a dual citizen—and left his U.S. passport at home because it’s close to expiring. He said sometimes that can cause entry issues, so he figured he’d skip the hassle. At the airport, the airline told him he couldn’t board for the U.S. using a foreign passport without a green card. Problem is, he doesn’t have a green card… because he’s an American citizen. No U.S. passport in hand, no boarding pass home. He told followers he’s “literally stuck in Medellín,” though he admitted there are worse places to be stranded. There is a U.S. Embassy in Bogotá that could help replace his passport, but he said he’s not exactly eager to head there. His message to Instagram? “Free me.” He later posted a gym selfie update in Spanish saying, “We’re fine, don’t worry.” So he’s stranded—but hydrated and getting reps in.
