Matt Dillon To Lead 'The Magnificent Seven' MGM+ Series Remake
Saddle up — Matt Dillon is riding into town as the new Chris Adams. Dillon is set to star in and executive produce an eight-episode MGM+ drama series reimagining The Magnificent Seven. The project comes from Heroes creator Tim Kring and aims for a big, cinematic feel. Production is scheduled to begin in June 2026 in Calgary. Dillon takes on the role originally made famous by Yul Brynner — the stoic gunslinger who leads a band of seven mercenaries hired to defend innocent villagers from a ruthless land baron trying to steal their land. In the 2016 remake, a spiritual successor to the character was played by Denzel Washington. This new version is set in the 1880s frontier and centers on a peaceful Quaker village attacked by hired guns. The moral twist? The Seven must wrestle with whether violence is justified to protect people whose faith is rooted in non-violence. Expect themes of honor, redemption, sacrifice and faith — with plenty of grit. The series will stream on MGM+ in the U.S. and several international markets.
