Netflix Sparks Fury By Quietly Cutting Off Access For Almost 90 Million Devices
An estimated 87 million Netflix users could lose access this weekend — specifically anyone still streaming on a PlayStation 3. Users began seeing an on-screen alert saying Netflix will no longer be available on the PS3 after March 2, 2026. While Netflix hasn’t made a big public announcement, the PS3 was the last remaining seventh-generation console still supported by the app. That era is officially over. Newer consoles like the PS4 and PS5 aren’t affected. And most modern smart TVs and inexpensive streaming sticks — including devices like Chromecast — will continue to work just fine. The PS3 sold about 87.4 million units worldwide before production ended in 2017. Even now, nearly two million people reportedly still use it monthly, often as a legacy gaming or media device.
