Quentin Tarantino dropped his personal top-ten films of the 21st century, and he crowned Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down as the champ. He told Bret Easton Ellis that he liked the movie at first, but only after rewatching it did he realize it’s a full-blown “masterwork.” According to him, it’s the only modern film that truly nails that Apocalypse Now-level purpose, style, and intensity — and it doesn’t let up for nearly three hours. He praised Scott’s direction as “beyond extraordinary.” Tarantino noted the film’s loaded cast — from Josh Hartnett and Ewan McGregor to a young Tom Hardy and Orlando Bloom — and highlighted its Oscar wins for editing and sound. He also tipped the cap to Scott’s wider career (Gladiator, Blade Runner, Alien, etc.).
