Netflix and A24 are teaming up for a stormy new limited series, Weather Girl. The streamer officially confirmed the project, which it won after a fierce bidding war. Based on Brian McDermott’s one-person play that sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Weather Girl stars Julia McDermott, who’s reprising her acclaimed stage role and also producing. Set in wildfire-ravaged California, the story follows Stacey — a driven TV weather reporter whose on-screen polish hides her unraveling mental state as her hometown literally burns. After she broadcasts from a blazing home with a family trapped inside, her professional composure shatters, forcing her to confront both environmental devastation and a long-lost mother who suddenly reappears.
