YouTube, Fox Reach Short-Term Deal Before Football Starts

YouTube TV subscribers can still watch Fox programming—for now. Google announced a last-minute short-term extension with Fox Corp. on Wednesday, avoiding a blackout that was set to begin Wednesday evening. The temporary deal means subscribers won’t miss this weekend’s major college football matchups, including No. 1 Texas vs. No. 3 Ohio State, along with games airing on Fox, FS1, FS2, and the Big Ten Network. NFL, MLB, and other Fox programming remain safe as negotiations continue. Google says Fox is demanding higher payments than comparable networks, while Fox argues it has offered a fair deal and accuses Google of using its market power to push unfavorable terms. If talks break down, YouTube TV has promised subscribers a $10 credit for lost access.
