HBO MAX Password Sharing Crackdown Will Get Aggressive Next Month
If you’ve been sharing account access to HBO Max, the good times are soon coming to an end. Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that its days of turning a blind eye to password sharing are numbered. During the company’s Q2 earnings call, streaming and gaming chief JB Perrette said the crackdown will get "more aggressive" by the end of 2025, with noticeable financial impact expected in 2026. Just like Netflix and Disney, WBD is working to close loopholes and identify which users are legit — and which are just mooching. So far, the warnings have been soft and easy to ignore. But Perrette made it clear: that tone is about to shift toward “fixed” directives that will require action. Right now, the process is still in early stages, but by Q4 2025, expect stricter enforcement, tougher messaging, and fewer free rides.
