Say Goodbye To The HULU App
Disney is officially pulling the plug on the standalone Hulu app by 2026, merging it fully into Disney+ following its $9 billion buyout of Comcast’s remaining Hulu stake. While users can still subscribe to Disney+ and Hulu separately, both will live under one app to simplify streaming. CEO Bob Iger and other execs say the goal is to reduce subscriber drop-off, make navigation easier, and streamline operations using a single tech stack—plus rake in better ad revenue and boost cross-promotion between platforms. Internationally, Hulu will replace the "Star" brand on Disney+ starting this fall, finally expanding the Hulu name globally (something Disney's been trying to do since 2007). Hulu Live TV, however, will spin off into a joint venture with Fubo, staying separate from the main app.
