FDNY Rescues "GMA" Anchor George Stephanopoulos From Elevator In ABC'S Swanky New Digs

Yesterday morning, Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos found himself stuck in an elevator for over an hour, just trying to get to his office. He wasn’t alone—his security guard, Richie, was trapped too. The elevator froze between the second and third floors, forcing the FDNY to rescue them through the ceiling with a ladder. George handled the ordeal like a pro: reading The New York Times, answering emails, and cracking jokes about it later on GMA during the “Play of the Day” segment. A clip even showed him getting rescued—in shorts. Stephanopoulos had breakfast delivered to the FDNY crew that pulled him out. GMA executive producer Simone Swink also thanked the firefighters for getting George on-air in time.
