"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" Spinoff Series In The Works

A One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest TV series adaptation is officially in development, according to producer Paul Zaentz, nephew of original film producer Saul Zaentz. Speaking on the CK Café podcast, Zaentz revealed that he has signed a deal with the widow of author Ken Kesey to develop the series, which will finally tell the story from Chief Bromden’s perspective — just as the original 1962 novel did. The first season will center on Chief's experience inside the psychiatric hospital, while a potential second season would explore what happens after his escape. Zaentz emphasized that unlike typical movie remakes, a series format allows for deeper character development. The announcement also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the 1975 Oscar-winning film. A 4K restoration of Cuckoo’s Nest will be re-released on over 1,000 U.S. screens this month by Fathom Entertainment.
