Paramount Settles Donald Trump Lawsuit, Clearing Path For Skydance Merger
Paramount Global has reached a $16 million settlement with Donald Trump, resolving his $20 billion lawsuit over a controversial 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris, clearing the way for its long-delayed merger with Skydance Media. The lawsuit, filed against CBS News and Paramount, accused the company of promoting what Trump called a biased interview during the 2024 election. While the settlement includes no formal apology, Paramount has agreed that 60 Minutes will now release transcripts of interviews with presidential candidates after they air — with redactions allowed for legal or national security reasons. The settlement removes a major obstacle to the merger, which had been held up by FCC review. Though the FCC insisted the legal case and the regulatory process were separate, the lawsuit slowed things down. The merger can now proceed — although a "news distortion" complaint against 60 Minutes remains under review.
