Johnny Depp Says He Has No Regrets About Amber Heard Trial
In a revealing interview with The Times U.K., Johnny Depp opened up about his turbulent public and professional life, calling himself a “crash test dummy for #MeToo” and insisting he never truly left Hollywood despite his “boycott”-like ousting. Depp said he has no regrets about his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, during which he was awarded damages in a 2022 U.S. defamation trial. The case stemmed from a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which Heard described herself as a domestic violence survivor, without naming Depp. Although a jury sided with him in the U.S., a prior 2020 U.K. libel case found Depp had committed multiple assaults against Heard. Depp said he chose to go to trial in the U.S. to protect his name and legacy: “If I don’t try to represent the truth, it will be like I’ve actually committed the acts I am accused of. And my kids will have to live with it.” He also criticized the entertainment industry for turning on him, lamenting that even close friends who once attended his kids’ birthday parties abandoned him. “I wanted to see who was playing it safe. Better go woke!”
