Brian Wilson, Beach Boys Cofounder, Dies At 82
Brian Wilson, the creative force behind the Beach Boys and one of pop music’s most influential figures, has died at age 82. His family announced his passing yesterday on social media. No cause of death was given. Wilson's musical genius helped shape the California sound of the 1960s with hits like “California Girls” and “Little Deuce Coupe,” while his groundbreaking 1966 album Pet Sounds influenced generations of musicians — including The Beatles, who responded with Sgt. Pepper's. Despite battling severe mental health issues, particularly during the 1970s and ’80s, Wilson remained an iconic figure in American music. His legacy includes not only his vast catalog of meticulously crafted songs, but also his resilience in the face of personal struggles. He is survived by daughters Carnie and Wendy (of the pop trio Wilson Phillips) from his first marriage, and five adopted children from his second.
