A stage musical adaptation of Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is officially in the works, with Will Ferrell leading the creative team. Ferrell, who starred in the 2020 Netflix comedy, is co-writing the musical’s book with Harper Steele and Anthony King. Savan Kotecha, who co-wrote the Oscar-nominated song “Husavik,” will handle the music, and Tony-winning director Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!) is set to direct. Ferrell said he’s thrilled to “celebrate all the things we love about this amazing and unifying song competition” on Broadway. Timbers praised the film’s humor and heart, calling it a “joyful” story that lifted spirits during the pandemic. The film followed Icelandic musicians Lars and Sigrit, played by Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, as they chase their Eurovision dreams. The new stage version promises to bring the same mix of heart, spectacle, and irreverence to the theater.
