The Color Purple is coming to Max this month. Max announced in a press release Friday that the film will start streaming on its service Feb. 16. The Color Purple is based on the Alice Walker novel and Broadway musical of the same name. The film follows Celie (Fantasia Barrino), a young woman living in rural Georgia in the early 20th century, as she faces many hardships in her life, including being torn apart from her sister Nettie (Halle Bailey) and living with an abusive husband, Mister (Colman Domingo).
